McAvinnue's "Paw"tastic Field Day - Monday, June 9th
As you know, McAvinnue's "Paw"tastic Field Day needed to be postponed due to the significant rainfall on Friday morning impacting the overall safety of the fields at Father Maguire Park.
The new date of this AMAZING event is Monday, June 9th! All of the other scheduling details will remain the same. The weather on Monday looks to be much improved with temperatures in the upper 60's with some cloud cover to keep the heat at bay!
This event will combine super awesome outside field events with inside classroom fun for all of our students. Families will be able to come out to Father Maguire Park and cheer on their child during the outside field event portion of the school day only.
Each grade level will have a specific time that they will be outside enjoying some sunshine and fun with some crazy activities! Also, our students will have a cookout at the school, and end the day with a very special "Teacher Challenge" All School Meeting!
Here is the following grade level schedule for the field event portion of McAvinnue's "Paw"tastic Field Day:
- Kindergarten - 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM
- Grades 1 & 2 - 11:05 AM - 12:30 PM
- Grades 3 & 4 - 12:35 PM - 2:00 PM
Families are allowed to attend the field event portion of the event. This will occur across the street from McAvinnue at Father Maguire Park. After the field event portion has been completed for each grade level, students will head back to McAvinnue to continue to have a blast with some indoor activities including a special lunch on our rooftop courtyard.
Families ARE NOT permitted to enter the school during the indoor portion of McAvinnue's "Paw"tastic Field Day.
Students should arrive at school with a hat, water bottle, and sunblock already applied to exposed areas. School faculty will NOT be applying sunblock on students. This will take up too much time which will impact how this day will move along.
The rain date for this amazing event will be Monday, June 9th and the same schedule indicated above will be followed. We will make the decision to cancel and move McAvinnue's "Paw"tastic Field Day first thing on Thursday, June 5th in the morning. Be on the lookout for any outreach from the school on Class Dojo.
Reach out directly to the school if you have any questions! We are looking forward to hosting another tremendous day for our students, faculty, and families!
McAvinnue's Summer Program Registration is STILL Open!

We are excited to offer McAvinnue's Summer Program, a fun and enriching learning experience that will run from Monday, July 7th through Friday, August 1st, daily from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. This four-week program is specially designed for current McAvinnue students in Kindergarten through Grade 4 and aims to support continued learning, creativity, and social development throughout the summer.
The Summer Program will be staffed entirely by McAvinnue faculty, ensuring that students are supported by familiar, trusted educators who understand their needs and learning styles. Each day will include a blend of academic enrichment in literacy and math, hands-on science and art activities, structured outdoor play, and social-emotional learning opportunities—all in a fun, engaging environment.
Please note that transportation will not be provided. Families must arrange their own drop-off and pick-up. A light breakfast will be served daily upon arrival to help students start their day ready to learn. A bag lunch will be provided each day of the program.

Mental Health Student Support
Lowell Public School Families: We are committed to supporting the overall well-being of our students and believe mental health is an important part of overall health. We currently partner with Cartwheel https://www.cartwheel.org/ to support the mental health needs of our students via virtual therapy with licensed clinicians.
Up until now, a student had to be identified and referred for these services by our school team. Now, parents/guardians can express interest directly in mental health services for their child. Just fill out this form https://bit.ly/3QReTok
Our school staff can still refer a student to Cartwheel with parent/guardian consent. To learn more about this mental health program, check out the flyer below.
Here are some signs to look out for to determine if your child might benefit from mental health support:
- Changes in mood or behavior
- Changes in eating or sleeping patterns
- Declining academic performance
- Withdrawal from friends or activities
- Increased anxiety or stress
- Expressing feelings of sadness or hopelessness
- Experiencing transition (related to life, family, peers, school)
