And just like that....Quarter 1 is in the books! Teachers will be working on Monday to finalize grades before they post Monday night, and grades should be available to view on Infinite Campus starting on Tuesday.

A reminder for tonight's Teen Night: The event is scheduled to run from 7-9pm, and students must have a ride ready to pick them up at 9:00. We are not selling tickets at the door.

Remember: there is no school for students on Monday. Since Quarter 2 begins on Tuesday, we strongly encourage students to check their Infinite Campus account to view their schedule for Quarter 2. There may have been changes to their schedule from the physical copy they received back in August. The most up-to-date schedule for all students is the one posted in Infinite Campus.

A big incentive that students will be working toward is our Club Day/Reward Day on Friday, December 20th (the end of Quarter 2). Students who meet our criteria will be eligible to either attend (or participate) in the staff/student dodgeball tournament or attend a club session of their choice. Students must meet the following criteria:

• Academics: Must pass all classes in Quarter 2 (no failing grades)
• Attendance: Must not be on an Absence Intervention Plan (or must be making progress on an active AIP)
• Behavior: Must not have any behavior referrals that result in an after-school detention or higher (QST, ISS, OSS, etc.). Students who earn a detention or QST will have one opportunity for a restorative meeting with Mr. Fisher to earn back their incentive.

Mrs. Moyer and Mrs. Smith teamed up to allow students in English 7 to create book spine poetry. We have some creative students!

Thank you to our families and their patience during our morning drop-off. We know it can be hectic with hundreds of students being dropped off in front of the building within a 15-minute window, but we have a very smooth process due to our families' willingness to be patient and move slowly through the line.

One reminder: Once the buses start arriving to the front of the building, please do not follow the buses around the loop. We have 6 buses that typically drop off out front, and there is not enough room for vehicles to pass them on the left, so vehicles end up getting stuck. If there is a cone blocking a vehicle's path, please turn in front of the cone. The cone is there to designate that you cannot go past that point.

Our Lost & Found is quickly filling up. If your child has lost or misplaced an item (typically clothing or a water bottle) since the beginning of school, please encourage them to check out our Lost & Found, located just inside the Cafeteria's entrance. All unclaimed items will be trashed or donated at the end of Quarter 2 (December 20th).

The Family Engagement Center at The Ohio State University is holding an academy for parents and families to connect with other parents/families, build leadership skills, and strengthen school-family partnerships. See the flyer below for more information.

This school year, New Horizons Mental Health Services will be providing important suicide awareness and prevention education for students at Lakeview Jr High, as required by Ohio's House Bill 123. This program, called SOS Signs of Suicide, teaches students about mental health, depression, and suicide prevention.

The key lessons include:

• Depression is treatable, and it's important to seek help.

• How to recognize signs of depression or suicide risk in themselves or others.

• The ACT method: Acknowledge, Care, and Tell a trusted adult when concerned.

Students will watch videos, participate in discussions, and complete a screening form to assess whether they might need to seek professional help. If any concerns arise, the school will contact parents. If you would not like for your student to participate in the screening form, please complete the opt out form and return it to your child's school counselor. The opt-out form states a deadline of October 3, 2024; however, because our sessions are at various points throughout the year depending on the team, you can send in the opt-out at any point before the screening.

Earlier this week, the district sent out updated expectations for our students who want to attend PLSD sporting events.

• All students must show a valid school ID along with their ticket to enter the event.
• All K-8 students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to and during the event. K-8 students must stay with their supervising adult for the duration of the event.
• Junior high football players and cheerleaders must also be supervised at all times by their parent/guardian, even if wearing their jersey or uniform.
• Unaccompanied K-8 students will not be permitted to enter the event.

All coaches will be using this website for updates and announcements, so please check here if you have any questions. When you go to https://pickeringtonpanthers.org/ you will need to click on "more" and then Final Forms is under "Athletic Registration".

This form will be linked in each Community Corner update, allowing families to offer feedback to the counseling and administrative team regarding social justice, mental health, academic support, friendships/relationships, etc. Counselors and administrators will review the feedback on a weekly basis and send out any updates to concerns/questions in the next Community Corner update.
