Sanborn Spotlight
September 8, 2024

Dear Sanborn Families,
We had a wonderful start to the school year last week! This year, especially, there was so much excitement around this new school year. Students and staff spent time discussing how we can have a successful year. We reviewed expectations and ways to be respectful, responsible, and safe while at school. Thank you for continuing these conversations at home!
Kindergarten families also participated in Parent Orientation this week, learning about curriculum in our full day program. A reminder that Parent Orientation will be offered this week on Wednesday September 11th for all other grades. Grades 2, 4 and AIME/MILE are invited from 6:00-6:30 pm. Grades 1, 3, and 5 will meet from 7:00-7:30 pm. This evening is best for parents/guardians only.
NWEA MAP Testing Begins Week of 9/9/24
Each year, District 15 students in grades 2 through 8 participate in an academic assessment called the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). The MAP test measures your child’s achievement in reading and math. Most students complete the MAP in less than 40 minutes. This assessment provides our staff with valuable information that helps in planning instruction and tracking student growth. Students take the MAP twice annually—once in September and again in May.
Ensuring your child is well-rested and prepared for the MAP test can positively impact their performance. To help your child practice for the MAP test, you can visit the MAP practice site at: http://bit.ly/PracticeMAPTest.
The MAP test results help school staff identify each student's reading and math skills, allowing them to tailor instruction to focus on specific areas for improvement. Additionally, the test results are used to monitor your child's academic growth over time. MAP test results from the fall and spring testing periods will be available to parents via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. These results are typically posted in October and June.
For more information about the MAP test, please contact your child’s teacher or download the MAP Parent Toolkit at https://www.nwea.org/parent-toolkit/.
Parent Pickup/Dropoff and Walkers
This is a reminder that from 8:00 a.m. to 8:25 a.m. each morning, and from 2:50 p.m. until 3:15 pm
NO CARS should enter the front bus circle off of Oak Street. All traffic that arrives there will be directed to the Wood Street parent drop off/pick up location behind the school. As a reminder - you should never pass a bus with a stop sign out and lights flashing.
We are aware that due to the changes in boundaries, transportation is still processing many requests for changes in routes. This has caused an increase in families that are picking up and dropping off students in our car rider lanes. A reminder that parents should stay in their cars and drive through the back parking lot car lane off of Wood Street.
Only parents that are walking to the school from their home should be picking up their children directly from the front of the school. All other parents and families should remain in their car and drive through the back parking lot car lane.
We are continuing to monitor this situation along with the Palatine Police Department and anticipate the car rider lines will decrease significantly as more students are added to bus routes. Thank you for your patience as we work through this system and we keep student safety a top priority.
PTA
The Back to School Picnic was a blast! Families and students enjoyed seeing friends and teachers while eating cotton candy and popsicles. A perfectly sweet end to a great week!
A reminder that PTA is looking to add more members! The PTA is a collaborative partnership between parents, teachers, and school staff, dedicated to supporting our school community in various meaningful ways. Sanborn loves our PTA!
