As we talked about on Monday during PD, now more than ever we need to maximize our time with students (bell to bell) because we know that our student's motivation, student attention and learning gaps have been exacerbated due to the pandemic, not to mention life circumstances and ongoing ACEs. One of our continued focal points next year will center around continuing to collaborate around creating O
ptimal Learning Environments where our
instructional time and our
instructional moves are maximized through high leverage instructional practices (i.e. John Hattie's "moves"). High levels of instruction starts and ends first with
solid, caring learning environments and positive relationships.
Performance indicators that fall under the Environment Domain, again, include:
- Expectations (high academic expectations; learn from mistakes)
- Engaging Students & Managing Behavior (CKH moves; Positive classrooms; Citizenship)
- Environment (greeting, welcoming, organized, caring learning environments)
- Respectful Culture (positive teacher-student & student-student interactions and mutual respect; relationships)
Natural Focal Points for next school year to maximize student ownership and accelerate academic growth with the framework will be in the Instructional Domain in the following areas:
- Standards & Objectives (teacher clarity of unit & lesson goals; connect previous learning)
- Questioning (appropriately rigorous questions; questions tied to learning goal/target; using needed wait time; develop structures so all students can participate in discussion and questions)
