Optimal Learning Environments for Accelerating Learning
Characteristics of an Optimal Learning Environment - The Foundation for Maximum Growth
Performance indicators that fall under the Environment Domain, again, include:
- Expectations (high academic expectations; learn from mistakes)
- Engaging Students & Managing Behavior (CKH moves; Positive classrooms; Citizenship)
- Environment (greeting, welcoming, organized, caring learning environments)
- Respectful Culture (positive teacher-student & student-student interactions and mutual respect; relationships)
Natural Focal Points for next school year to maximize student ownership and accelerate academic growth with the framework will be in the Instructional Domain in the following areas:
- Standards & Objectives (teacher clarity of unit & lesson goals; connect previous learning)
- Questioning (appropriately rigorous questions; questions tied to learning goal/target; using needed wait time; develop structures so all students can participate in discussion and questions)
"One of the best things about being a teacher is that teaching matters and makes a difference. What makes teaching so hard is that it matters every day" - Todd Whitaker
Culture and Climate are the Foundation for an Optimal Learning Environments
