Peak Prep Principal's Update
September 16, 2021
Dear Families,
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Now that the school year is in full swing, we have seen that students are spending less time working on their courses, and many have fallen behind. Would you please remind your student that they must log in to each of their courses daily AND submit work daily? Students should be progressing and staying on track in all of their courses. While their work is available 24/7, work completed on weekends will not count towards attendance.
Attending school has a huge impact on student success. We realize some absences are for health or other reasons. But, when students are absent 2 or more days a month (or 18 days over the school year), they can fall far behind in what they learn. Excused and unexcused absences both mean missing learning time.
Absences can add up. Missing just two days every month puts students at risk of falling behind.
Some Attendance Tips:
- Make sure your students keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.
- Turn off all electronics, including TVs, phones, and tablets, at bedtime.
- Avoid scheduling vacations when school is in session.
- Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your student feels anxious about school.
Please let us know how we can best support you and your student so that they can show up for school on time every day.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your student's learning! I look forward to sharing information with you throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Sabrina Ciolino

What is Tiered Re-engagement?
- Tier 1-Our registrar, Ms. Hanson, will reach out to confirm we have the correct contact information. Would you please ensure you respond ASAP?
- Tier 2- Your counselor will meet with the student and parent to determine what barriers might be preventing your student from attending school daily and staying on track. Depending on the need, extra support will be put in place.
- Tier 3- Your homeroom teacher will set up a mandatory meeting between the student, family, homeroom teacher, and principal. During this meeting, we will create an individual plan based on identified seeds.
- Tier 4/Evaluation After Missed Assignment- A record of findings will be created to determine if it is in the pupil’s best interest to remain enrolled in our independent study program.
What triggers re-engagement?
Re-engagement may be triggered by one or several of the following items:
2) If a pupil is not generating attendance for more than three (3) school days or 60% of the instructional days in a school week,
3) If the pupil violates the terms of their master agreement.
4) If satisfactory academic progress in one or more courses is not being made.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
- The student's achievement and engagement in the program.
- The completion of assignments, assessments, or other indicators that evidence that the pupil is working on assignments.
- Learning required concepts, as determined by the supervising teacher.
- Progressing toward successful completion of the course of study or individual course, as determined by the supervising teacher.
Synchronous instruction=Live Lessons
- All students in grades K-3 are offered daily synchronous instruction by their teacher.
- Students in 4th-12th grade will be offered at least weekly synchronous instruction by their teachers, but all students in 6th-12th grade should have multiple opportunities each week due to having multiple teachers.
Student marked as non-participatory
