Silverbrook Read-a-thon
Make your child a Silverbrook SuperReader!
Silverbrook's Read-a-thon, our only fundraiser run by the Silverbrook PTO, kicks off at today's afternoon assembly. Ask them to show you the packet they receive, including information about the Read-a-thon, pledge options, a reading log, a collection log and prizes they can earn for participation. Families need to have a Pledgestar account set up in order for their student to participate. (Cash and checks can still be turned in, the PTO will credit those to your Pledgestar account.)
Key Dates to Remember:
- November 1-15 - Get Pledges and READ, READ, READ!
- November 4-8 - Spirit Days!
- November 18-26 - Collect and turn in your pledges and tracking sheet
- December 20 - All School Read-a-thon celebration.
We have had great success with this program and hope your child has a great experience participating in the Silverbrook Read-a-thon this school year!

McTeachers - Wednesday, November 6
Not sure what to make for dinner? Take the night off from cooking! Head on down to the Galactic McDonalds between 4:00pm-7:00pm on Wednesday, 11/6. Silverbrook will receive 20% of the sales that night! Hope to see you there!
Lost and Found
All items that are in the lost and found area will be donated next week. Your last chance to look will be Friday after school. Thanks to all of you who looked through our piles and found your lost treasures!
Silverbrook Small Group Counseling Opportunities
Counseling groups are offered at Silverbrook to provide additional support to students with common needs or concerns. The goal of small group counseling is to help students learn new skills, cope with concerns, and connect to other kids. Groups typically meet for 4-6 weeks for about 40 minutes each week. Group size is usually 6-8 students. Students can request to participate in a group specific to their interests, or parents/guardians may request that their student participate by contacting your student’s school counselor. Parents/guardians are notified via a group information sheet that is sent home with their students when a group begins. Parents will also be sent an email before a small group opportunity begins. Please use this link to view the different opportunities your child has at Silverbrook.

Second Step
Week of 11/4/2024
5th Grade
Lesson: Planning for Change
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will practice breaking down situations that feel big and unmanageable into smaller, more manageable pieces. They will also practice identifying a small change someone could make to manage their strong emotions the next time a situation occurs.
Try This at Home: Tell your child about a recurring situation in your life that typically causes you to feel a strong emotion, like stress or anger. Ask your child what you can change to make the situation better, and why they would suggest that change
6th Grade:
Unit Description (Thoughts, Emotions & Decisions)
In this unit, students learn how to recognize strong emotions and unhelpful thoughts. They learn to apply strategies for managing their emotions and for reducing stress. This unit’s content helps students understand that all emotions are valuable because they provide us with information about our environment. Students learn to respond to their emotions in ways that help meet their wants and needs.
Lesson: What Emotions Tell You
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how to recognize the kind of information their emotions can give them in different situations and how that information can be useful.
