Panther Update Family Edition #34
May 9, 2025

A Note from the Principal...
Hello Everyone,
Fridays are my favorite time to reflect on all I’ve learned throughout the week—and today, I can’t help but share.
This week was full of reminders of just how special our school community is. Our PTO is absolutely incredible, and we’re so grateful for all they did to celebrate our teachers—it made a big impact! Speaking of teachers, ours are truly something else: committed, passionate, intelligent, kind, and just plain awesome! We also celebrated the induction of our newest National Junior Honor Society members. These students looked ready to take on the world—and I believe they will! Our 5th grade Poetry Slam was a powerful event, showcasing our students’ creative and poetic talents! I was so proud to watch them share their voices on stage in front of peers and families. And finally, I’ve learned to never underestimate the Pacers - EVER! Game time is 7:30 tonight—Let’s go, Pacers! 💙💛
A quick reminder as the weather warms up—staying focused in the classroom can get a little tougher for students. Please take a moment to review school behavior expectations with your student.
As we head into the final weeks of the year, your partnership makes a big difference in helping our students finish strong and on a positive note. That’s our shared goal!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Janie Ulmer
Principal
Rental iPad Return Information
The following information only applies to students and families who used an iPad from HSE this year. We ask these families to carefully review the following information.
WHEN AND WHERE WILL RENTAL IPADS BE COLLECTED?
Information about dates, times and procedures will be sent to you via Parent Square from the school, as well as posted on the school’s website or in the newsletter.
WHAT NEEDS TO BE RETURNED?
All students will return their rented HSE iPad and the standard cover (grades K – 4) or keyboard cover (grades 5 - 8).
WHAT ABOUT CHARGING BRICKS, CORDS AND HEADPHONE ADAPTERS?
Cords and bricks, will not be collected. If you are a new HSE iPad user, you are welcome to keep the cord and brick that were issued to you. Repeat HSE iPad users will not receive a new cord and brick. You may continue to use the cord and brick initially provided to you or you may provide your own. For KG, 5th and 9th grades, you will not only keep the cord/brick but also the headphone adapter.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE THE IPAD FOR RETURN?
Please take a date/time stamped picture of your students iPad, while the screen is on with the student’s login information visible. We ask that families follow the directions in the link below to prepare the iPad for return. It is important that families follow all steps in the link. It is important that families DO NOT erase/reset the iPad on their own. HSE Technology will be responsible for removing the Apple ID before the device is erased/reset. HSE Technology will perform this if not returning the same device to that student.
WHAT IF THE IPAD IS DAMAGED? WHAT ARE THE FEES?
A thorough inspection will assess the working condition of the iPad and cover/keyboard and images will be taken to document such damage. Any damage to the iPad and/or cover/keyboard may result in fees being assessed to the student’s Skyward account. Following inspection, the iPad will be stored for the summer.

Infuse Club
Attention: Parents of up and coming 8th Graders!
We are excited to announce an incredible opportunity for your child to lead and mentor 6th grade students in INFUSE Club! This is a chance to share their faith, and make a positive impact in our school community.
What is INFUSE Club?
“Infuse” is a lively Christian-based club for 5th and 6th graders where fun and faith are “infused” together! Our club is all about building new friendships, exploring faith in a fun way, and enjoying a range of exciting games and activities. Each session is designed to help students connect with others, learn about faith, and start their day with positive energy. Whether we’re playing interactive games, sharing stories, or just hanging out, we ensure that every moment is filled with laughter and meaningful connection. As a mentor, you will play a vital role in guiding younger members in small group discussion about their faith, help with set-up of activities, and foster positive relationships!
Requirements to Apply:
Students must be entering 8th grade for the 2025-2026 school year.
A completed Teacher Recommendation Form is required. This form should be filled out by a teacher who knows your child well and can speak to their leadership qualities. Teachers will place the form in Mrs. Beesley or Mrs. Elliott's mailbox by Friday, May 23rd.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference, deepen their faith, and create lasting friendships. To pick up a teacher recommendation form, your child can see Mrs. Beesley in room 226 or Mrs. Elliott in room 228. If you or your child have any questions, email Mrs. Beesley at jbeesley@hse.k12.in.us or Mrs. Elliott at cjelliott@hse.k12.in.us.
We can’t wait to see how your child will shine in this role!

Helpful Tips & Links from the Counseling Department
Overcoming Test Anxiety:
Avoid perfectionism - Don't expect things to be perfect when taking a test. Mistakes will happen, just do your best, and work hard.
Avoid negative thoughts - Push negativity away and replace with positive thoughts such as, "I can do this," "I studied," or "I know this."
Get sleep - Get a good night's sleep. Start settling down and relaxing about an hour before you need to fall asleep. This means no screens, while trying to calm down. Go to bed at a decent time. No caffeine close to bedtime.
Be prepared - Know how to study. Ask a teacher for help, if needed. Study early enough before the test, so you know the material. This will boost your confidence.
Deep breaths - Breathe deeply, in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Time - Take time to focus on each individual question. Read and re-read, if needed, for understanding and clarity.
