Get the Lowdown with Dr. Lowe
York Academy Families:
This week is National Assistant Principals Week! Here at the York Academy, we are lucky enough to have three amazing Assistant Heads of Schools. Ms. Kristin Sipe is our Assistant Head of School at the Lower School, and Ms. Alina Henninger and Mrs. Chris Smith are our two Assistant Heads of School at the Upper School. We are so appreciative of their dedication to our school, our staff, and our students! The York Academy would not be the same without them!
Additionally, as you know, this fall, we are opening Legacy Hall. This building will house our Diploma Programme students. With our new building opening, and with a large 6th grade class moving up in the fall, the Upper School has many open teaching positions! If you are interested, or know someone who is, please see details near the conclusion of the newsletter.
Enjoy the day,
Dr. Lowe

Sign Up for Summer Camps
Summer Camps are back, and all Lower School students are invited to participate! The dates are June 16 through July 10. Camps will be held Monday through Thursday from 8 AM - 12 PM. There is no cost to attend any of them. Registration closes on April 25.
Camps are limited to a certain number of students and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that parents/guardians must provide transportation. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Our camps provide opportunities for enrichment and serve as an extension of what students have learned over the school year. They will have fun while learning science, math, reading, and writing skills. Students will also get to do exciting physical challenges.
You will need to submit the form for each of your children by April 25. Make sure to click on the grade that they will be ENTERING in the 2025-26 school year.

York County Middle School Honors Band
In March, four York Academy instrumentalists participated in the annual York County Middle School Honors Band Festival - Ada Michael (Clarinet), Lily Lutz (Flute), Josh Peterman (Trumpet), and Ronan Paddock (Baritone Saxophone). The band was made up of well over one hundred top-notch musicians in 6th through 8th grade from all over York County. Bravo to these four for being selected into this elite group! We are so proud of you all!
Junior Achievement Yes Day
Thanks to our amazing volunteers, our 7th and 8th grade students were able to participate in a series of workshops and activities that taught them the importance that financial and career decisions will play in their lives. We are grateful for our community of professionals and Mrs. Bonderowitz, our 7/8 School Counselor, who helped to put this together!
The School Store is Open!
The online school store is now open through May 25, 2025! Orders arrive approximately 3 weeks after the store closes. This is the perfect time to start ordering uniforms and spirit wear for next year! Click the graphic below to view the store.
Pink Belt Winners
Performing music often requires the musician to process written symbols quickly. The faster a musician can recall rhythmic symbols, the more fluidly they will be able to play. Our Pink Belt competition is an annual tradition that works to shorten the processing time it takes to read music notation. All first year instrumental students are challenged to recall common written music symbols as fast as possible.
Everyone did a great job with Pink Belt this year! Here are 2025's top performers:
1st Place Band: Isabelle Larbi, clarinet
2nd Place Band: Gwendolyn Bastian, flute
1st Place Strings: Gloria Baker, violin
2nd Place Strings: Trayaan Duval, viola
Way to go, Knights!

Whooooo Wants to Learn?
We hope you're able to join us from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Lower School for pizza, snacks, a live animal presentation, activities, and crafts!
Art for a Cause
NAHS is hosting the Art for a Cause silent auction again this year in conjunction with the Upper School MYP Art Show! Please consider donating a finished/completed work of art to be auction off at the Art Show on May 9 (more detail about the show to come). Donations are due to Mrs. Chester by May 1. Anyone may donate! Students, family members, community members... all are welcome! The funds this year will go toward starting a NAHS scholarship for students pursuing further study in the arts!
