Attendance Policy and Homework Requests Reminder
The school believes that maximum achievement can only occur with regular attendance in all classes. Based on this, parents and guardians are encouraged not to take their child out of school for reasons that would be considered unexcused per our attendance policy (vacations, hunting trips, working at home, babysitting younger brothers or sisters, etc.).
If your child will be out for one (1) or two (2) days, you are welcome to request work from your child’s teachers directly, however teachers are not required to provide work when a student is gone fewer than three (3) days. Work should only be requested if you feel your child will have time during his/her absence to complete all work and return it upon their first day back at school. In the case of illness or prolonged absences (3 or more consecutive days), parents may request work directly from the office. When this request is made, all work must be completed and turned in upon the student’s return. Failure to turn in completed work upon return to school will result in a failing grade for any missing assignments.
It is recommended your child collect their missing work when they return to school, as they will have the same number of days that they were absent to complete and return it.
As a reminder, medically excused absences (with a note from the child’s medical provider), death of an immediate family member/funeral (up to five (5) days), required court appearances and/or religious observances meet our excused absence guidelines. Any other absence, even those excused by a parent, will count towards total unexcused absence accumulation. Additionally, you will need to call or email the attendance office to notify the school of your child’s absence(s).
November Students of the Month
Warm Hearts, Hands & Heads - Student Council Hat & Mitten Drive
Our middle school student council is sponsoring the Warm Hearts, Warm Hands, Warm Heads hat and mitten/glove drive from December 4th – December 11th to help families in our local Goodrich community. Student council members will be collecting these items each day during lunch. For every donated item, the student making the contribution will be entered into a drawing for an NCG movie gift card.
All of us feel good about warming the hearts of our Goodrich families by making sure we are keeping hands and heads warm this winter season. Please consider giving to this worthwhile cause and helping us to spread warmth here in our Goodrich community.
Thank You For Your Generosity!
We did it! The students and families of Goodrich Middle School came through for the Food Drive sponsored by the Lion's Club and Goodrich Middle School Student Council. We had a total of 1,679 food items and donations, overachieving our school goal of 1,000 items by a landslide! Thank you to all of our students and families who helped to make this holiday season a little bit warmer for those less fortunate in our community.

Dec. 1st - Monthly Book Swap
Goodrich Middle School's next monthly book swap will be this Friday, December 1st! Our first two monthly books swaps in October and November were a huge hit! The events are sponsored by Cottage Used Books in Goodrich.
Students are allowed to bring in up to five gently used books to turn in to their ELA teacher the day before the event in exchange for tickets to pick out new books during the swap. Kathy Mulholland from Cottage Used Books in Goodrich supplies “new” books for the kids to choose from. This is a great way to clear out the books your middle-school student has already read in exchange for new reading material!
GMS Band & Choir News
- 7th & 8th grade band members have Solo & Ensemble Festival on Saturday, Dec. 2 at North Branch High School. This is a music competition where they will perform a piece of music they prepared alone or in a small group (2 players on separate parts) in front of a judge. Good luck to all who are participating.
- Blue Lake scholarship auditions will be held at the Goodrich Middle School on Wednesday, December 6th during regular class times. This is a great way to earn money toward tuition at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp this summer!
- Everyone is invited to the GMS band concert on Thursday December 14th, starting at 6:30 in the Goodrich High School Auditorium. We hope to see you there!

Rachel's Closet
Rachel’s Closet, located in the office at GMS, is a closet full of clothes, supplies and personal care items that middle school age students may need, but maybe cannot afford. Students are able to visit the closet for items they need confidentially. Please talk to your child about Rachel's Closet and encourage them to see Mrs. Durant, Mrs. Lauinger, Ms. von Keltz, Mr. Salter or Ms. Batterbee if they need anything.
