Halloween Parade Information 🎃
Dear Sloatsburg Families,
Our annual school wide Halloween Parade will take place on Thursday, October 31st. All students and staff from Pre K - 2nd grade will begin marching at approximately 10:15. If you are driving, please plan to park your car by 10 am sharp. The Ramapo Police Department will be closing Allen Lane and 2nd Street (directly in front of the building) at this time and no other vehicles will be able to access our parking lot after that, for the safety of our students and staff.
I will ask all staff members to park on the grassy field that morning, which will free up parking spaces in our lots and on our basketball court. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we recognize that parking can be difficult.
Once you have parked, you are welcome to line the parade route and wait for our little friends to begin marching. I will have staff members positioned outside to guide families and answer any questions you may have.
Finally, if your child does not wish to participate in the parade, please email thier teacher and we will find an alternate activity for this time period. Looking forward to a wonderful day!!
Fondly,
Mrs. Rodriguez
Red Ribbon Week!
Red Ribbon Week in elementary school is designed to teach young children about making healthy and safe choices in a way that's fun, relatable, and age-appropriate. For young students, it focuses on simple messages like making good choices, showing respect, and staying healthy.
2nd Grade Cross Country Race!
On Saturday, November 2nd the annual Joseph Smith Invitational Cross Country Championships will be held at Suffern Middle School. In this event, Sloatsburg Elementary School second graders will compete against R.P. Connor’s second grade. Registration is at 8:30 am at Suffern Middle School. The race will begin at 9 am. The race will consist of:
Grade 2 Girls ¼ mile b) Grade 2 Boys ¼ mile = 1 lap around track
Second Graders are encouraged to stay after their race and cheer on 3rd, 4th and 5th grade racers. Plaques will be awarded to the top three finishers in each race. Medals will be given to ALL finishers. In preparation for this event, we have been conducting practices during physical education class which will emphasize conditioning and the development of proper body mechanics. Aside from the psychomotor learning, cross country lessons will be designed to build self-esteem, and will, most importantly, be fun! There is no cost involved in being a part of our team. We ask that if possible, all runners wear blue on the day of the race.

NY State Update on Drills
Sloatsburg Elementary will be conducting a mandatory lockdown drill, high wind drill and fire drill in the next week that will involve our school’s staff and students.
Recent amendments to the Commissioner of Education’s Regulations require that notice be provided to parents and those in parental relation, as well as staff, within one week of all school emergency drills. This communication will serve to meet this requirement.
Please note that immediately before each lockdown drill begins, an announcement must be made clearly stating that a “LOCKDOWN DRILL” will take place. I will emphasize "This is just a drill." Staff will have discussed this procedure prior to our drill on Friday using age appropriate dialogue.
In accordance with the amendments, no lockdown drill will involve tactics that may engender trauma in an individual or mimic a school shooting (e.g., no actors, props or simulations will be utilized). Please reach out to your child's teacher should you have any additional questions.
