Dear Cheetah Families,

I hope you had a wonderful three-day weekend — whether you were celebrating Easter with loved ones or simply soaking in this beautiful spring weather, I hope it brought you joy and rest. 🌼☀️

I’m still in absolute disbelief (the happy kind!) over the incredible turnout we had at our Cheetah Fest! 🐆🎉 From the smiling faces to the packed field of games, food, and fun — it was truly one for the books. This wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless dedication of our PTA Executive Board and all of our Cheetah Fest sub-committee volunteers. Your love for our school and commitment to creating a welcoming and fun environment shone so brightly. 💛 THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for making it such a successful, organized, and joy-filled event.

Moments like these remind me that the heart of a school's success isn’t just a strong leader — it’s the incredible partnership between passionate educators, supportive families, and a vibrant community. ❤️

As we jump into this week, here’s a quick look at what’s coming up:

📌 April 22–26: We’re celebrating Administrative Assistants Week AND Volunteer Appreciation Week! 🎉
☕ Volunteer Breakfast – Coming up on Thursday, May 2! Be on the lookout for invitations and an RSVP link soon.

✏️ Wednesday, April 23: Our students will take the Math STAAR test. This will wrap up our STAAR testing season. Please note that no visitors will be allowed on campus that day, including for student lunch. Thank you for understanding and supporting a calm testing environment.

🎨 Saturday, April 26: Don’t miss our SVE Art Fest — a colorful celebration of our students’ creativity and talent! 🖌️✨

Dear Cheetah Families,

Beginning next school year, Sunset Valley will transition to having one after-school care program on campus — CDC Crew.

Over the past year, we’ve seen a significant decline in enrollment in the Extend-A-Care program. Additionally, hosting the program in our academic PODs has proven to be inconvenient and limiting for our campus needs.

After thoughtful consideration and conversations with both programs, we’re excited to share that Crew is able to fully absorb all Extend-A-Care students and provide a more streamlined and enriching after-school experience for our families. This shift also comes with a variety of campus-wide benefits, including:

✨ A second lunch monitor to support daily operations
✨ Incentives and major discounts for families with financial needs
✨ Free child care for teachers’ children on in-service days
✨ Additional incentives for SVE teachers who have children enrolled
✨ Continued high-quality enrichment activities for students

Currently, Crew charges $300/month, but offers generous discounts (50% or more) for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

We are grateful to Extend-A-Care for their many years of wonderful service and partnership at SVE. At this time, we believe that consolidating into one after-school program will help us create a more cohesive and supportive experience for students and families.

Between the silent auction and festival sales, we raised a total of $21,300 for the school, almost $1000 more than last year. 🎉 And as importantly, the community had a good time together. Thanks to all you who participated in the silent auction and bought wristbands to get us to this amount, the volunteers that stepped up, the companies that donated to the silent auction, and the PTA members who planned and executed Cheetah Fest.

How will we use the money we raised at Cheetah Fest? When you're on the board, you not only know what's going on at SVE, you get to directly influence what goes on using the PTA's resources.

The PTA board is extremely supportive and collaborative, and you will have the group's experience and extensive documentation to lean on. As volunteers, we all do the best we can for the SVE community given our busy lives, and ask for help when we need it. Read the descriptions of the open positions.

The PTA had a general meeting on Thursday, and as always you can read the minutes and slides on our meetings page. The last PTA meeting will be Tuesday, May 13 right after school.

📦 Last day to return all library books: May 16

🎁 Incentive Alert:
Students who clear their library account in May will get to choose a fun reward from the library treasure trove! 🏆🎉

🧶 If your child comes home with a yarn “bracelet” on their wrist, it’s a friendly reminder to search for and return their library book 📚➡️🎒

📬 Reminders for missing or overdue books will start going out to students, caregivers, and staff in late April and early May — thank you for helping us keep our collection complete! 💌

💙🐆 Let’s make April & May amazing, SVE family! #WeAreSVE

We're excited to share that PEAS (Partners for Education, Agriculture, and Sustainability) will be offering two summer camp locations this year:

🌱 Cunningham Elementary (South Austin)
🌱 Winn Montessori (Northeast Austin)

These hands-on, nature-based camps are a wonderful way for students to stay active, curious, and connected to the outdoors during the summer. Plus, participation in these camps helps support the sustainability of PEAS programming during the school year!

• Camps are open to 25 students per week at each location.

• Partial scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
