Dear Sunset Valley Families,

As we approach the Thanksgiving break, we want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support and partnership. Your involvement in our school community makes a world of difference, and we are truly thankful for each of you.

A special thank you to our wonderful PTA in advance for providing our staff with a warm turkey dinner at our upcoming staff meeting. This thoughtful gesture will allow us to celebrate and show our appreciation for all that our teachers do day in and day out. During the meeting, I will also be recognizing our teachers with RAVE Awards and honoring our November Staff Members of the Month.

If you’ve been meaning to recognize your child’s teacher, now is a great time to submit a RAVE on their behalf! Let’s come together to send our educators off into the break feeling loved, appreciated, and valued for their hard work.

Students will soon begin receiving their HSR (Human Sexuality and Responsibility) lessons. Teachers have started sending home parent permission letters, allowing families to opt their child in or out of all or individual lessons. We would like to inform you that the window for assessing the progress of partner language (Spanish) proficiency for students in the Kinder-4th grade Dual Language program will be from November 1 to December 15, 2024. This assessment will apply to all students enrolled in the Spanish Dual Language Program, including both Emergent Bilingual and Non-Emergent Bilingual students.

As in previous school years, classroom teachers will use holistic rubrics based on the LASLinks Español to evaluate students' language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and overall language development in Spanish. These assessments will help track students' growth in the partner language.

Scores reflecting your child's proficiency level in each language domain will be shared after the 2nd 9 Weeks window closes.

Our campus would like to thank PTA for sponsoring, The Theater of the Plains Performance during AISD's Native American Month.

If you’ve signed up to join your child for our Thanksgiving Family Luncheon, please remember to join them at their designated lunch time. Lunch will conclude promptly at the end of each grade’s scheduled time.

To help ensure the safety and accountability of all students, we kindly ask that you accompany your child to their lunch dismissal line at the end of their lunch period.

We’ve prioritized families who RSVP’d and have arranged seating accordingly. While we are doing our best to accommodate everyone in the gym/cafeteria, families may also use the outdoor picnic areas as space permits.

We look forward to sharing a warm meal and good company with you!
