Summit High School
Message From Mrs. Grimaldi
Dear SHS Families,
Don't want to make dinner on Tuesday night? Please consider supporting the LCJSMS PTO's fundraiser at Tito's Burritos. Click here for more information.
There is a lot for me to be thankful for this year. I work with amazing educators in an extremely supportive community with wonderful students. Thank you for your continued support of me and Summit High School.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones!
Please be reminded that school will be closed on Thursday and Friday this week for the Thanksgiving holiday!
It's a great day to be a Hilltopper!

You Are Invited...Parent Wellness Consortium Event
Please join us for a special virtual Parent Wellness Consortium event this Monday, 11/25/24 at 7:00pm featuring Stephen Hill. Stephen’s presentation equips parents with essential insights from his lived experience and shares strategies to foster resilience, support mental well-being, and prevent substance use in young people.
Stephen has a truly inspiring comeback story that everyone must hear. As the founder of Speak Sobriety, a young person in recovery, a bestselling author, a recovery coach, and a defense attorney he has great insight to share. His story was the main feature in Surviving the Hill, a recently released documentary on the drug epidemic focusing on prevention and recovery.
Stephen presented at our Consortium last year and spoke with our 8th-grade students this year and last year on the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol on both the individual and the family. This year he is being sponsored by the Berkely Heights school district. We’re excited to welcome him back to share his knowledge and expertise!
For more information about the event, please email SHS Student Assistance Counselor, Amy Herber, aherber@summit.k12.nj.us.

To Apply:
Students interested in being considered as Summit High School’s nominee in either of these programs, must complete the appropriate application below in its entirety and submit it to Mrs. Kaplan via email or in the School Counseling office by Monday, December 16, 2024. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Applications:
Note: Those students selected as Summit High School’s nominees will be notified prior to winter break. They will be required to complete the Governor’s School application, essays, and supplemental materials by Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

Winter PE Independent Study Hall Applications
Winter PE Independent Study Hall applications will be e-mailed to all 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students on Monday, November 25th. The deadline for submission is 3pm on Monday, December 2nd. Late application will not be accepted.
This will be the ONLY time for students to apply for Winter PE Independent Study Hall. Therefore, if a student-athlete has health during the 2nd marking, they should apply now because their Winter season might extend into the 3rd marking period.
Please note that Winter PE Independent Study Hall follows the calendar of the SHS athletic season. Students will be notified when they can begin PE Independent Study Hall.
Did You Know?
Did you know that you can view your student's check-ins on Genesis? Students scan into the bathrooms, library, help centers, counseling office, and nurse's office when they visit these locations during the school day. You can view these check-ins in Genesis. Log into your Genesis account, and click check-ins on the left side of the screen. Please discuss with your student any excessive time out of class.
You can also view how many times your student did not have their ID badge with them in school. Please help ensure that your student has their ID badge with them each morning.

Visitors to Summit High School
Appointments must be made in advance to see teachers, counselors, administrators, and other staff. Please be prepared to announce your name and purpose in order to be granted access into the building.
When a visitor arrives at the school, they will be asked to provide identification, such as a driver's license or state-issued ID card. If the visitor does not have any means of identification on them, they will be asked to input their first name, last name, and date of birth into our visitor management system. The identification is then scanned into the system, and the visitor's information is checked against a database to ensure they are not on any prohibited lists. Once the visitor's information has been verified, a temporary badge will be printed and provided to them by the school security officer or school secretary. This badge must be worn at all times while the visitor is on school grounds and will be collected upon their departure. All visitors to the building must be escorted by a staff member at all time.
In the event an emergency visit is necessary, please call the school’s main office ahead of your arrival so we are prepared to accommodate your needs.
Drop-off items (lunch, instrument, Chromebook, etc.) may be dropped off in the bin outside the main entrance vestibule. We will not inform students when items have been dropped off for them.
Academic Help Centers
Our academic help centers are available each period of the day. Please encourage your student to visit the academic help centers during their study hall period.
