Happy Friday, Everitt families!
I hope you had a wonderful week. We sure did here! Our 7th and 8th grade students had their first grade-level crews led by the crews of Ms. Swanson and Ms. Van Woensel. Both crews demonstrated amazing leadership and the students were celebrated for their LABS (Leadership Achievement Bravery Strength) traits and had fun playing a game to help them find connections between them.
This week's highlighted student work comes to us from multicultural literature, art, and Ms. Widtfeldt's 6th grade ELA class. Below you will see two examples of powerful pieces about student names and some amazing beginning of the year art by our art students.
Below, there is information about our upcoming pickleball tournament. We would love to see you there. It will be a fun day and an opportunity to help our band earn enough money to travel this Spring.
This Thursday, September 12th, Ms. Galvez-Estevez and our current 7th grade students will be celebrated at the School Board Meeting. They will be recognized for their excellence in their environmental sustainability projects last year. We are so proud of all of them for their leadership, research, and courage to make positive change in our community and school. You are welcome to attend the meeting which will be in the board room on the 5th floor at 5:00 pm.
Please be sure to fill out the student benefits application. Completing the application may help both your family through fee reduction and Everitt through additional funding to support student learning. The link can be found below. Please call if you need assistance with the application or have any questions.
Thank you for supporting and believing in your neighborhood school. It is our privilege to partner with you!

Apply Now: Student Benefits Application for 2024-2025
Thanks to Healthy School Meals for All (HSMA), the district will continue to provide all students with one breakfast and one lunch daily at no cost through the 2024-25 school year, regardless of income eligibility.
.
Though meals are free for all Jeffco students, families are still encouraged to visit SchoolCafé and complete a Student Benefits Application. While this application does not determine your student’s access to meals under the HSMA program, it may help their school secure additional state or federal funding. Additionally, your student(s) may be eligible for other benefits, such as school-related fees or testing fees (Outdoor Lab fees, field trips, class fees, transportation, district fees), based on information provided on the application.
Student Benefits Applications are now available on SchoolCafé for the 2024-25 school year. If you need a paper application, please contact Jeffco’s Free & Reduced Lunch Specialist, Lorena Gomez-Vazquez, at 303-982-6916 with additional questions. Visit the Free & Reduced Meals webpage to learn more.
Thank you for your support in nourishing our learners: our future. We look forward to serving your student(s) healthy and delicious meals this school year.

Book Study Opportunity
I would love to have as many families (and students, staff members, and community members) as want to join me for a book study on the book 10-25:The Science of Motivating Young People by David Yeager. The book is about how to help young people between the ages of 10 and 25 to feel inspired, enthusiastic, and ready to contribute rather than discouraged, outraged or overwhelmed. I am loving the book so far and I think you will too. It is equally powerful for parents, educators, mentors, coaches, and managers. We are going to be meeting on Wednesday evenings at 5:00 starting next week. Purchase the book, read the introduction, and join us!

Name Writings
My name in most of the world means royal staff of the gods. My name means gold, which I think is really cool. I think that my name reminds my dad of the singer Bob Marley and the song One Love. My name means the color gold which I find really cool. I couldn't find a number so I chose my favorite number 17 because it is my jersey number. I also have liked it since I was 7.
I got my first name from my great Grandfather who I never got to meet. I got my Middle name from my great grandfather from my mom’s side of the family who passed away when I was 8. My great grandfather from my mom’s side of the family fought in World War II. On my dad’s side of the family my Great grandfather my dad said was a great man. My dad also said he would be so proud if he was still alive. My great grandfather from my mom’s side of the family was proud when he found out we share the same middle name.
My name always reminds my grandma’s of their dad’s which means a lot to them. Which is one of the reasons why I would never change it because it is special to my family. I got my last name from my dad which has been passed on for a really long time which I find is really cool and special to me. Which I think is really cool and is another reason why I would never change it.
My name is also special to me. It is special because it also comes from the roots of my family. I would never change my name because it carries the roots of my family from my mom’s side of the family and my dad’s side of the family.
-Gustav
In English my name means beauty and divine. In France it means origin and popularity. It is like the number 13, odd, like my birth year and soccer number. A beautiful Lilac color. It is like how my dad starts to play one of his new favorite songs which becomes my favorite as well!
The meaning of Lila can mean a couple different things like night, beauty, purple, and divine play. My parents found it in a name book and they thought it was a beautiful name so that is how my name turned out to be Lila. It originally came from Arabic, German, Persian, and Sanskrit origins. So that is the story about my first name, Lila.
The meaning of Grace means simply elegant. My mom chose it because she has loved that name for a long time. At first, my first name was going to be Grace but it turned out to be Lila. It came from Latin origins and Greek mythology. So that is the story about my middle name, Grace.
My name has always been special to me for my whole life and I don't think I will ever change it. I think it is perfect for me.
- Lila

PTA (PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION) CORNER:
Our focus is on building lasting connections between families, getting to know our student’s teachers, and creating opportunities to come together as a community, valuing our diversity and celebrating our differences.
OUR FIRST PTA MEETING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR WAS A SUCCESS!
Thank you to the 40+ people who attended in person and online to be part of our community on Wednesday evening! We had many new faces from families with new 6th graders, and would love for folks who couldn’t make it to come next month and connect. We learned about our new SEL Specialist, Caroline Curtiss, and her attempt to not turn into her parents (spoiler alert, she did!), got updates on what Student Council (StuCo) is planning, and heard from Ms. Pouliot about what to expect from our fast changing middle schoolers! She also suggested a book she is reading called "10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People” by David Yeager and will be holding a book study group. Send her an e-mail if you would like to join!
Lastly, there are opportunities to be involved in the school and community coming up fast including the Music Department Pickleball Tournament on 9/14, The Farmers5000 5k run at the HS on 9/15, and come with your family to enjoy Community Movie Night on the south lawn under the stars on 9/19!
