Week of October 7, 2024

"Movement of the hand is essential. Little children revealed that the development of the mind is stimulated by the movement of the hands. The hand is the instrument of the intelligence." -Dr. Maria Montessori

Message from the Principal
Dear Bobcat Families,
In the wake of the recent hurricane, I want to extend my heartfelt thoughts to each of you as we navigate the challenges of power, water, and internet outages, along with property damage many of us have faced. While our community has certainly felt the impact, it's important to remember the areas that have been affected even more severely. As we come together to support one another, let us also keep those communities in our hearts and consider how we can extend our help. Our commitment to resilience and compassion is a cornerstone of our Montessori values, and I encourage everyone to lean on each other during this time. Please reach out if you need assistance or support; we are here for you.
Warm regards,
Ms. Amanda

Grace & Courtesy Focus
Throughout the school year, Ellis has a school-wide focus on certain positive character traits. Each teacher may choose to highlight these "Grace & Courtesy" emphases differently, but as a school we follow a general common curriculum.
From October 7-25th, our school-wide Grace & Courtesy emphasis is RESPECT.
The language for identifying/naming RESPECT in "The Self-Awakened Child" series by Jonathan Wolff
When I listen to what other people say and do not ignore them or interrupt them when they are talking, I am listening with Respect.
- When I remember to think about other people's feelings before I act or talk, I am acting with Respect for others.
- When I take good care of the things that belong to others, I am Respecting other people's things.
- When I take good care of myself, my feelings, and my things, I am acting with Self-Respect.
- When I treat people the way I like to be treated, I am acting with Respect for others.
BOOK IT! Reading Program
**Update 10/4/24** Happy October! The BOOK IT! Reading program has begun, but it is not too late to sign your student up to participate.
The BOOK IT! Program is a FREE reading incentive program intended to inspire a lifelong love of reading in PreK-6th Grade students. Ms. Lisa participated in the program as an elementary student and is excited to facilitate the program for Ellis students again this school year.
The program is simple...read to your student or encourage them to read at least 20 minutes per day (5 days a week) and you will receive a coupon (via email) for a FREE one-topping, personal size pizza from Pizza Hut every month. The program runs from October through March.
If your student would like to participate or if you have any questions, email Ms. Lisa (lisa.odonnell@sccpss.com). By emailing Ms. Lisa, you agree to allow your email address to be submitted to BOOK IT! so that you can receive the free pizza coupons for your student. Your student will receive a reading log from Ms. Lisa every month to keep track of their reading.
Happy reading, Bobcats!

School Counseling
Check out our October School Counseling Newsletter here. We're here for all of our Charles Ellis Montessori Academy families post Hurricane Helene and always. Please let Ms. Rebecca or Ms. Ava know if you, or someone you know, may need any extra support during this time as we return to school.
Due to the storm, we have rescheduled our first Family Engagement opportunity of 24-25 to Saturday, October 26, 10am-11am. Please join us for a rich discussion on child and adolescent anxiety as we ponder themes from The Anxious Generation. See our flyer here and mark your calendars!
