Noon Message to Families

Cedar Hill ISD Families & Community,
We hope you enjoyed a wonderful Easter Weekend filled with faith, family and fun! We're entering the final stretch of the school year. In addition to end of the year ceremonies and graduations, we have several important dates to circle on the calendar.
VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE
The first is this Thursday (April 4). It is the final day to register in the May 4 Cedar Hill ISD Bond Election. The other key dates are April 22-30 (Early Voting), and of course, Saturday, May 4. We are hosting a voter registration drive this week. Residents can stop by the Kim Lewis Auxiliary Services building today through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and register to vote. We encourage you to visit chisd.net/bond for more information on a bond measure that was vetted by our Longhorn Futures Committee (LFC) and placed on the ballot in February by the CHISD Board of Trustees.
LIBRARY APPRECIATION MONTH
It's a special time for libraries. April is School Library Month, and on April 27, the City of Cedar Hill will open the new Traphene Hickman Library, named in honor of a late, great Cedar Hill Librarian who graduated from Cedar Hill High School. April 7-13 is National Library Week, and this Thursday, April 3 is National School Librarian Day. Be sure to show your school librarian some extra support and appreciation this week.
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR 2024-25
Cedar Hill ISD currently has Pre-K for 3 year olds only at the Lake Ridge Elementary Montessori Campus, but we're planning on expanding it to additional campuses. Starting the first level of Pre-K at age 3 will give scholars an important step in their educational journey and a better opportunity to excel in later grades. There's even a correlation to earn higher wages when they become adults.
Registration for new and returning CHISD scholars opens today (Monday, April 1). We encourage families to register their scholars for the 2024-25 school year as soon as possible. The returning scholar enrollment is a straightforward process where scholars can re-enroll through Skyward.
New scholars may enroll through Lacy Enrollment Center, 504 Belt Line Road in Cedar Hill. The more returning scholars that complete the process earlier will help project planning for campuses.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gerald B. Hudson
Superintendent
Cedar Hill ISD
If your student is enrolled in CHISD on the last day of school in 2023 (May 26, 2023), then your student is categorized as a returning student. If your student attended CHISD during the 2021-2022 or any previous school year but transferred to another school outside of CHISD, they are new to the district.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN PROPOSITION B?
By law, the purchase of devices must be approved in a separate special purpose proposition. Proposition B is on the May 4th ballot for Cedar Hill ISD at a cost of $3.9 million. If approved by voters, all scholars in Cedar Hill ISD will experience 21st century classroom technology and learning tools.
Proposition B includes new devices for students, teachers, and the classrooms that will help build engaging instruction for all.
Proposition B will ensure that all classrooms have the same level of technology.
Teachers and Scholars will be able to enter any classroom in the district and feel comfortable with all of the same devices.
Teachers will not have to learn a new piece of equipment when they move from one room to the next.

Preparing for Success: STAAR Test Readiness
As we approach the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) testing period, we want to ensure that our students are well-prepared and equipped with the tools they need to succeed. The STAAR tests are essential for our students to demonstrate their academic proficiency and showcase their learning achievements.
Here are some important reminders and tips to help your child prepare for the upcoming STAAR tests:
Know the Schedule: Familiarize yourself with the STAAR testing schedule for your child's grade level. Make a note of the dates and subjects being tested to ensure your child is prepared and ready for each assessment.
Encourage Consistent Study Habits: Help your child establish a consistent study routine leading to the STAAR tests. Set aside dedicated time each day for review and practice, focusing on areas needing additional support.
Review Test Format and Content: Review the STAAR tests' format and content with your child. Familiarize them with the expected questions and provide practice materials to help them feel more confident and comfortable on test day.
Emphasize Test-Taking Strategies: Teach your child effective test-taking strategies, such as reading questions carefully, eliminating incorrect answer choices, and managing time wisely. Remind them to stay calm and focused during the test.
Ensure Adequate Rest and Nutrition: Prioritize your child's well-being by ensuring they get plenty of rest the night before each test. Provide them with a nutritious breakfast on the morning of the exam to fuel their brain and body for optimal performance.
Offer Emotional Support: Ensure your child is capable and prepared for the STAAR tests. Offer words of encouragement and support to alleviate any test-related anxiety they may be experiencing.
Stay informed about any updates or changes regarding the STAAR testing process. If you have any questions or concerns, be sure to communicate with your child's teachers or school administration.
Cedar Hill ISD is committed to supporting our students every step of the way as they prepare for the STAAR tests. Our dedicated teachers work diligently to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to excel on these assessments.
Thank you for your partnership in your child's education. Together, we can help our students achieve success on the STAAR tests and beyond.

Behind every successful school district is an engaged community dedicated to supporting schools. Throughout Cedar Hill, businesses, community partners, parents and volunteers dedicate their time and resources to assist schools and help students succeed.
To recognize these dedicated supporters, CHISD is announcing the Community Partner of the Year and the Volunteer of the Year, which will be presented at our Leadership and Service Awards to an individual or group for selflessly supporting the school system.
We are fortunate to live in a community where so many people care deeply about our children, educators and schools! We recognize that our community partners are essential to moving our school district forward and helping students succeed. This program is just one way we can recognize some of those who are dedicated to making a difference every day.
