Dear Steele families,

Can you believe it? We've already sailed through two-thirds of the 2024-2025 school year! As we wrap up our second trimester, it's amazing to reflect on how far we've come and how much we've accomplished together.

While we're proud of our achievements so far, there's still so much to look forward to in the coming months. Our final trimester promises to be packed with learning, growth, and memorable experiences.

Mark your calendars! Report cards will be available on Monday, March 3rd, through the Parent Portal. To access the most current information:

The Steele Student Council is excited to announce that we are partnering with South High School’s Student Government. South is raising money to support Make-A-Wish Colorado to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. This year, South is raising money for a four year old girl named Berkeley. Berkley was born with congenital heart disease. Berkley loves Disney, the colors pink and purple, and playing outside. South High School will be hosting different fundraising events the week of March 3 - 7 to help Berkley’s wish for a family trip to Disneyland come true! We invite the Steele community to help make this year’s Wish Week a huge success.

How can the Steele Community help?

• Participate in South High School Fundraising Events

• Donate directly to South Wish Week online. We have a Steele Elementary Team!

• Attend South’s Disney Night (similar to Trick-or-Treat street which some of your kiddos should be familiar with) on Wednesday, March 5th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm

• Run or walk the community 5K (March 1st, 8:30 AM) is shorturl.at/34e8D .

• Visit South’s Silent auction open between Monday, February 24th through Wednesday, March 10th.

• Participate in Steele Elementary Fundraising Events

• Donate during Steele’s Wish Week. Students and staff make a donation and participate in a fun spirit week!

• Monday, March 3 - Make a classroom card for Berkley

• Tuesday, March 4 - Disney Character Dress Up Day

• Wednesday, March 5 - Pink and Purple Dress Up Day

• Thursday, March 6 - Wear your favorite outdoor gear

• Friday, March 7- Classes that have earned $50+ get extra snack recess

• Classroom teachers will collect the donations. The classroom with the greatest donation at the end of the week will earn a celebration generously donated from the South Student Government.

Steele’s 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be taking the Colorado Measure of Academic Success (CMAS) in April. Please be mindful of the testing schedule as you plan appointments and trips.

February was Black History Month! Students learned about Black leaders, artists, scientists, activists, writers, and more in their classrooms. They also spent the month trying to find the faces of 15 notable Black leaders around the building. Did your child find all 15?

In March, we'll have two opportunities to dine out and give back to Steele!

Students in grades 3-5 are preparing to take their second round of DPS interim assessments. We would like to inform you about important changes to these evaluations. This year, the interim assessments will focus on year-long standards rather than semester-specific content. Additionally, the results will be utilized internally by our teachers for instructional planning purposes, allowing us to better tailor our educational approach to student needs.

To ensure you stay well-informed about your child's academic progress, we will continue to provide regular feedback through assessments and projects following each Bridges and CKLA unit. These evaluations offer a comprehensive and accurate representation of student achievement. We encourage families to rely on these unit-based assessments, rather than the interim results, as the primary means of monitoring your child's ongoing academic growth and performance.

The Lost & Found will be collected for donation TODAY. Please make sure to check it out for any lost items. The rack is located in the lobby next to the lunch room.

The 2024-2025 yearbook ordering is now available! Head to the picture day dashboard to order a year book and find the options for student dedication yearbook ads.

We need Science Fair judges and volunteers! No experience or science background required, just a good attitude and a few hours (8am-12:30pm) on Friday morning, 3/7. Volunteer to sign up here.

The Science Fair will be held on Friday, March 7with a community open house the night before on Thursday, March 6.

Our first discussion in a series centered on some of the key themes in the Anxious Generation by Jonathon Haidt will take place after the March 11 PTA Meeting. We are lucky to have Associate Professor of Psychology at DU Jenalee Doom, PhD, join us for the discussion on themes like cell phones, social media, video games, and their effect on childhood development. Dr. Doom brings her focus on stress in children's development to the meeting.
