4.21-25.25 Providencia Elementary School Newsletter
Dear Providencia Families,
We would like to highlight our diverse school community and give families an opportunity to learn other cultures at our Sat., May 3rd Multicultural Spring Carnival. With parent, student and staff participation, we will transform the Community Room into an international showcase full of arts and crafts, music, language and more!
We encourage individuals, a family or a group to highlight their country of choice using a trifold poster board. (If you Google “trifold display multicultural family night," you’ll see some examples). FREE TRIFOLD POSTER BOARDS ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST IN THE OFFICE. For each country represented you can also bring cultural artifacts for the event. A few examples include:
- Decorating the trifold poster with facts: how to say “hello” and “goodbye” in a language, interesting facts, photos from a country, etc.
- Displaying children’s books, a country’s flag, national flower, traditional costumes, textiles, artifacts and/or art
- Displaying musical instruments and showing visitors how to play them or playing types of music popular in a country
- Giving visitors a handout on how to count to 10 or 20 in a country’s language, coloring pages of a country’s flag, flower, native animals, etc.
- Showing visitors how to do a simple craft to take home or how to write words or their name with a different writing system
- Demonstrating traditional dance moves, martial arts or reciting a song or a poem in a different language
- Showing visitors how to play a traditional children's game
Your display can be as elaborate or simple as you’d like! The minimum every country will need at their table is a trifold display. Our students and families will appreciate whatever you would like to share about your culture, regardless of how many items you have at your table. Displays are due on Friday, May 2.
If you are interested in showcasing a country, please complete this linked GoogleForm.
In addition, if you would like to request a cultural song to be played by our DJ at our event, please click on this link. Thank you!
Respectfully,
Principal Celeste

Mon. 4/21-25 PTA Scholastic Book Fair Week
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is starting tomorrow! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Dates: Monday, April 21, 2025 – Friday, April 25, 2025
Location: Community Room
All students will shop with their classroom during school hours.
After school shopping with parents and families:
Tuesday, April 22nd from 1:30pm – 3:30pm and
Thursday, April 24th from 1:30pm – 3:30pm
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage:
https://www.scholastic.com/bf/providenciaelementaryschool
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the FairTM. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books from the Fair.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. We hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
We need DISTRICT CLEARED volunteers to help at our Fall Book Fair. Please use this online sheet to sign-up. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805044DA8AB22ABF58-55978689-providencia
There are many shifts available that affect whether or not we are able to be open for our classroom visits and after school hours shopping. If we cannot fill these shifts, then we will have to close the Book Fair during these times. This impacts our students being able to shop with their classroom, our sales, and money we could be earning for our school. Please take a look at your schedules and the sign-up sheet to see if you can help cover any of these shifts.
State Testing Continues
We continue Week 2 of the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) State Testing window for 3rd-5th grade students! To prepare, please share the following tips with your child and enjoy the motivational video created by our DEI Committee Peter Bognar and Aggie Sosa featuring some of our students who demonstrate our character trait of the month, perseverance!
