Learning Express Parent Newsletter

LEX Early Intervention classrooms will be in fall break next week from Monday, October 7th through Friday, October 11th, 2024. LEX Pre K Counts classrooms (Mrs. M. and Miss Snyder) will be in session.

On Thursday, September 26th, 45 families joined LEX staff in the gym for a Superhero Family Fun Night! Students participated in a variety of literacy, math, and stem activities. Students made superhero capes and some even dressed as superheroes! Throughout the month of September, students have been practicing Leader In Me Habit #1 - Be Proactive. To practice at home, students made responsibility charts that will help them practice responsible habits at home!

Our 3 day classrooms had a special visitor this week! Students have been learning about the feeling happy and were able to meet Rosy, a therapy dog, and tell Rosy about all the things that make them happy. Rosy had a great impact on our students this week and we hope she will return in the near future for another visit.

In the month of October, students at LEX will focus on learning about Leader In Me Habit #2: Begin With The End in Mind. This habit is about setting goals and working towards them. Families are encouraged to set a goal with their child at home and work towards completing the goal. Here are some example goals that could be set at home.

-Set a goal to be on time for school if your family is not always on time.

-Set a goal for your family to work on cleaning out a designated area (garage, basement, etc.)

-Set a goal for your child to keep their room clean for a specific period of time (2 weeks).

LEX welcomes volunteer participation in our school and fully understands the impact parent involvement makes on the education of the child. There are many opportunities in our school to actively participate in the educational program.

Per the Child Protective Services Law and Act 15 of 2015, volunteers are required to obtain background checks (PA State Police and FBI Reports) and child abuse clearances (Child Abuse History Clearance). Clearances are valid for 60 months from the date of issue and must be on file in the school's Main Office before the volunteer is approved to participate in any activities.

The volunteer requirements and the individual clearances are described in detail within the Altoona Area School District Volunteer Manual. For specific questions, please contact the building principal.
