HMS Parent Update
November 26th, 2024
We hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
Write an Encouraging Message to Your Student!
We want all of our HMS students to feel supported. Create a message and it will be printed as the semester ends and delivered to your student! Click here to leave a message of encouragement.
Staff Notes of Appreciation
Our District 300 staff do so much to take care of our students each and every day. Your specific words of appreciation can go a long way to support them. As part of our ongoing recognition of staff, we have developed this form to allow stakeholders to quickly jot a note of appreciation for a staff member's extra efforts.
Here are a few ideas to start your note of appreciation:
-My child was excited to share…
-I would like to say thank you for…
-I just want you to know…
-I appreciated your kindness/compassion/warmth/patience you showed my child when you…
-My child loves school because of your passion for....
-My child now can .... because you taught them....
Central Office administrators will hand deliver your note to the staff to acknowledge staff for their extra efforts.
PBIS Updates: Family Survey & Winterfest!
Your feedback and partnership is important to us at HMS. If you complete the survey, your student’s name will be entered into a raffle for a prize. Raffle winners will be announced by the end of the semester. Please complete the short survey here.
We are proud of our HMS students for following their PAWS in Quarter 1 and Quarter 2! To celebrate this, on 12/20 students will participate in Winterfest where they will engage in a variety of activities that include STEM, team building and giving back to the community. We need your help to help make this possible. We are asking for donations to help make this day special for our students. All donations need to be brought in by December 17th. Below is a link to sign up for any items you are able to donate. Please contact Alvina Stover alvina.stover@d300.org with any questions. Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. Thank you!
The Tardy Challenge will run 12/2-12/13. Prizes will be awarded the following week! It is important for students to arrive to class on time so they can maximize their instructional time and this allows our HMS hallways to be clear and safe.
HMS Celebrates Physical Literacy
Dear Parents/Students, The Physical education and health department would love to engage the community by getting to know how you and your family demonstrate physical literacy outside of school. Physical literacy is competence and confidence in a wide variety of physical activities in multiple environments. Some examples could be horseback riding, rock climbing, running, skateboarding, bike riding, sports, etc.
If you would like to be part of our school's celebration of physical literacy please have your students bring in a photo of themselves or family demonstrating physical literacy. The photos will be presented on a bulletin board outside of the upper gym. If you would prefer to drop your photo HERE we can print them for you as well.
We look forward to seeing all of the different ways our community here at HMS is demonstrating physical literacy.
Thank you,
The Physical Education & Health Department

Beta Club Change War!
Beta Club will be sponsoring a class change war beginning Thursday 11/21 and running through Friday December 6th. The purpose for this collection is to raise money to buy holiday gifts for area families in need. We are partnering with St. Charles Borromeo who have identified those in need.
Change (or dollars) will be collected in students’ hand out classes (1st period for 6th and 8th and 3rd period for 7th) and whichever class earns the highest average (collected amount divided by number of students in the class) will win a donut, pizza or ice cream party for the whole class!
We will be collecting over conferences, so feel free to help your student’s class out!
This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and to teach our students the importance of empathy and kindness- as well as helping families in need during a special time of year!
