Thomson Tidbits
September Edition 2024
A Note from the Principal
Dear Thomson Families,
As we step into the month of September, Iβm excited to welcome you to a month filled with growth, learning, and exciting events.
First, Picture Day is coming up soon, so be sure your students are ready to bring their brightest smiles to school.
On September 20th, weβll be celebrating Homecomingβa special time for our school and community. We hope everyone will join in the festivities and show their Thomson pride.
Then, on September 27th, weβll be hosting our annual Walk-a-Thon. This event is always a highlight, promoting fitness, fun, and school spirit, all while raising funds to support our school. Weβre looking forward to watching our students as they walk around the track and demonstrate their commitment to health and school spirit.
Our theme this year is "We're All In This Together," and it truly reflects the spirit of our school community. Whether it's cheering on students at Homecoming, supporting them during the Walk-a-Thon, or simply encouraging each other in our daily activities, weβre committed to working together to make this year a success.
Itβs going to be a great September, and weβre excited to see our students grow and learn together. Thank you for being a part of the Thomson family!
Best regards,
Andrew Criswell

Reminder - Thomson Parent Orientation Presentation
I wanted to send a quick reminder about our Orientation video. If you havenβt had a chance to watch it yet, please take a few minutes to do so. The video is filled with great information that will help you and your child have a successful school year.
I know it was included in last month's edition of Thomson Tidbits, but I wanted to share the link again for easy access. Itβs important to stay informed, and this video is a great resource.
Thank you for your time, and I appreciate your continued support!

Fun to Be Fit! β½ππ
Hi families!
My name is Mrs. Lints and I am your child's physical education teacher. I have been working at Thomson Elementary since 2009 teaching GSRP, kindergarten, and developmental kindergarten. This will be my fourth year teaching physical education and it is my all time favorite! Your child will learn many things this year and will be introduced to many physical activities as well as teamwork and body/spatial awareness. I cannot stress the importance of wearing tennis shoes on your child's designated class day. Please review your child's schedule to ensure success in class. Crocs, sandals, and boots do not make good running shoes. I am looking forward to this year and working with your children. Remember a body in motion stays in motion!
Happy Reading!πππ
Hi Families!
This month in the library our students will begin checking out one book each week. Letters will be sent home to notify families which day your childβs library day is. This is to ensure the book is always brought back on time! We are continuing to learn about library rules, and the proper way to take care of our books! I am excited for the new school year and to watch our students grow in their reading skills each week! Happy Reading!
π» STEM Class!
Hello Thomson Families,
I am Ms. Wendy Lockrey and I teach STEM at Thomson and Central. This year I spend my mornings at Central and afternoons at Thomson. Students will be using STEM bins with manipulatives to build and use engineering skills, in other words- we play! Students will also get to use iPads and Chromebooks with educational websites. I will share these websites with you each month so students can utilize these at home as well if they choose to, as they are fun and also free!
I look forward to meeting and getting to know your Thomson Teddies this year! Because of traveling between two schools every day, the best way to contact me is to email me at: wlockrey@davisonschools.org
Looking forward to a great year,
:) Ms. Lockrey
Gold Out and Pink Out Campaigns
From Michelle Edwards - Director of Public Information
Dear DCS Families:
As you may already be aware, Davison Community Schools traditionally holds two fundraisers in the fall to raise money for cancer patients and research. One of the ways we raise funds is through the sale of T-shirts. We are fortunate to have two shops in Davison that generously donate a portion of their sales to our campaign: Hilton Screeners and K&C Special Ts.
If you would like to participate in one of these fundraisers by purchasing a shirt, please see the details and ordering information below. You can order and pay for everything online and even have it delivered! Please pay attention to order deadlines to avoid being left out!
Our first fundraiser will be a "Gold Out" and visitors to the September 13 home varsity game will be encouraged to wear their T-shirt or other gold clothing to the game. Gold is the color to symbolize childhood cancer. Money raised from the T-shirt sales and any other Gold Out activities will be donated to Alexβs Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) Childhood Cancer Charity. Our DCS staff will also participate in a District Jean Day by paying $5 to wear jeans to work on September 11, with all money collected going to this organization as well.
Our annual Pink Out game will be held on Friday, October 18. Pink is the color to symbolize breast cancer. All money collected will go directly to the American Cancer Society (Flint and Genesee County). Again, staff will participate in a District Jean Day on October 9 with their $5 donations to wear jeans to work that day going to the same cause.
