Community & Family Events
The Canned Food Drive ends December 5th: Currently, Mr. Newman’s class has taken a demanding lead in our Canned Food Drive with 176 items and Mr. Kurtz’s class is in second place with 76 items. Will Mr. Newman’s class be able to hold on for two more weeks? Will they be the class eating pizza? Keep the canned food coming in!
Morning Drop-off: When dropping students off in the morning, please use the drop-off lane. This way a staff member is able to ensure that your child is safe. If you park your car in the parking lot, please walk your child all the way to the gate. Letting your child walk through the parking lot by themselves is unsafe and causes a safety hazard for not only your child, but those who are pulling out of the drop-off lane.
Cold and Flu Season: Cold and flu season is upon us. Here are some guidelines for illness:
Please keep your child home if he/she is ill. While attendance is always important, it is in the best interest of everyone that the student remains home when he/she is ill.
Fever ≥100.4 with symptoms of illness (until fever has been gone for 24 hours without the assistance of fever reducing medications), for vomiting or diarrhea (until 24 hours after the last episode), and until students feel well enough to participate in school and other symptoms of illness are improving. This may require staying out of school the day following symptom onset to watch for overall improvement in symptoms.
If your child becomes ill at school, we will care for your child and attempt to contact you immediately, so that you can pick up your child. Please make sure that we have emergency contact information for your child. This includes persons to contact if you are unavailable.
Thank you! We appreciate your partnership.
Sincerely,
Sarah Walgast

We’re excited to announce the 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration! This year’s theme, “A More Excellent Way, of Love,” honors Dr. King’s belief in justice, unity, and kindness. We invite Pre-K to 12th-grade students to participate in our art, writing, and (new) music contest, expressing their vision for a world filled with fairness and compassion.

Messages From The Office
* When your student is absent it is a good idea to reach out to their teacher to get work to do at home. However, still call the attendance line or email the office to excuse the absence. Teachers are busy and may not have time to let the office know that the absence was excused through them.
You can now excuse the absence through the parent portal if that is more convenient for you.
* If your student is absent due to an appointment, please get a medical note from the clinic and send it to the front office. Medical appointments with a note are the only absences the state of Colorado considers as excused for their count purposes.
* Remember, if you need to change how your student normally goes home please call or email the office before 2:30 PM. Stacey.faykosh@tsd.org or 970-613-5600
* Please remember that toys are to remain at home. They can be a distraction in the classroom and there are tears if the toy disappears.
**Small lost and found items are usually kept at the office.
ATTENTION 5th GRADE PARENTS
If you are Choice enrolled at Big T and your boundry school is not Walt Clark but you would like your student to attend Walt Clark, you will need to do the choice enrollment which opens on November 1st.
If Walt Clark is your boundry school but you would like to attend a different middle school you will need to do the choice enrollment.
If neither of these situations apply to you then you do not need to do anything. Your enrollment will automatically roll over to your boundry school for next year which for most of you is Walt Clark.
