Nurse's Corner
As flu season is upon us and colder weather will eventually get here, we are reminded the importance of keeping your children healthy with up-to-date vaccinations as well as making sure you are going to those child well-checks and dental exams. Flu vaccines are available at many doctor offices as well as clinics and pharmacies. Our own Fredericksburg Health department offers flu vaccines. Children 6 months and older can receive the flu vaccination. Below is a guide for parents about the flu and the schedule for immunizations. These are helpful resources that can help you keep your child healthy.

Beat the Holiday Blues
The holidays can be a magical time, but there can also be a lot of pressure for both children and parents. There is anticipation of what the season might bring, and schedules may be changed to meet the holiday activities and events, getting everyone a little off their game
There are some things that are important to keep in mind during this time of year to help keep everyone in good spirits
Keep to your schedule as much as possible. Bedtimes may shift due to gatherings or activities, but try to keep everyone as close to normal schedule as possible.
Make sure everyone is getting fruits and vegetables with meals or snacks. This helps keep energy up to do all the fun things.
Get outside at least 30 minutes a day and exercise.
Take a special moment with each child if possible. This can be five minutes in the car or a quick walk to the mailbox. Connect with them and remind them of a couple things you love about them.
Take a moment for yourself. Make time for a hobby or activity that makes you feel good about yourself. It’s just as important for you to fill your own cup as it is to fill those of your family’s.
PARENTS – please remember that you are enough. We worry about not giving our children everything, making everything perfect, and giving everything we have to make the best life for our families. Please remember that you are doing your best to provide for your family and help your children grow into wonderful adults one day. It’s okay if things are not perfect, you are doing a good job!
