NFHS Remembers
Principal Message
Dear Raider Nation,
There are 2 messages that I would like to share before you begin to look at all the great things going on in Raider Nation.
First, it's important that we continue to keep Apalachee HS and that community in our thoughts after last week's senseless tragedy. Our school has friends, and both personal and professional relationships with members of that school and community due to being in the same region for athletics and extracurricular events over the past 2 years. It's a great community that supports their students in all that they do, very similar to our school and community. The safety and security of our school is a top priority 24/7 and we take that responsibility very seriously. We have 2 outstanding School Resource Officers (SRO's) on campus all day. We are connected directly to both the Forsyth County Safety Office and Forsyth County Sheriff's' Office at a moments notice. Every school has state mandated drills (per month) that include fire, inclement weather, medical, and school lockdown 16 in total for a school year. It's critical we prepare and practice in case of any emergency. We stress to our students and faculty "see something, say something" as a proactive measure. There are other daily precautions taken that we keep in-house that aide us in making sure our classrooms and buildings are safe.
I was extremely proud of our students and the NFHS community in how well things were handled last week with posts and rumors being shared over social media. We stayed calm, reflective, and diligent to our protocols. As part of SAFE, CONNECTED, and THRIVING, nothing is possible without starting with safety and security both mental and physical. Thank you for your continued support though all things and challenges.
Patriot's Day 911 Remembrance
In Memoriam September 11th 2024
Today, we pause to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on that fateful day. It has been 23 years since the attacks, but the pain and sorrow felt by families, friends, and communities remain ever-present.
We also pay tribute to the first responders—the firefighters, police officers, medical personnel, and brave citizens—who selflessly ran toward danger to save others, many of whom gave their lives in service to their fellow Americans. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
As we reflect on this somber day, let us also remember the resilience of the American spirit. In the face of unimaginable loss, we came together as a nation, united by our shared values of freedom, hope, and compassion. This day reminds us of the importance of standing strong in the face of adversity, supporting one another, and never taking for granted the freedoms we hold dear.
May we continue to honor the memory of those who perished by living with the same courage, unity, and dedication to each other that defined our response to that dark day.
We will never forget.

Counseling News- Class of 2024
The counseling department will be presenting the SOS Signs of Suicide program to our 9th grade students this week during their Health and Personal Fitness classes. This program is designed to teach students about mental health and encourages them to seek help for themselves or a friend if they need it. The students will watch some short videos, participate in discussion questions, and then complete a brief depression screening. We will be following up with any students who are potentially at risk for depression and/or suicide. If we call for a student, it will be urgent that we speak to them right away so please send them to the counseling office immediately. I have attached the brief depression screening as well as a handout for your review. We are aware that this week may be more disruptive to your classes than usual, but we appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work to ensure the health and safety of our students.

Yearbook Updates
Honoring Apalachee
Stephanie, the yearbook sponsor at Apalachee High School, recently shared a message to a Yearbook Sponsor group that I am in about building a yearbook after this week. She has witnessed an incredible outpouring of support for their school and is now collecting photos from other schools that have honored Apalachee. These tributes include groups holding posters, wearing ribbons, and group hugs. They have been truly touching to see.
If your club, sport, or organization has done anything to honor Apalachee High School, please send me your pictures so I can share them with her. Additionally, if your students have any photos from playing at Apalachee and would like to include messages of encouragement, I will forward those as well.
Thank you for your support.
