Curriculum and Assessment Updates
End of Year Assessments
As the school year winds down, students across the grades will participate in benchmark assessments to measure growth and plan for instruction. Families can expect to receive a copy of student results before the end of the school year. Assessments are done with familiar staff in the classroom or in a familiar small group space.
Here is a list of the assessments your child may participate in:
Kindergarten - Earlybird Early Literacy Assessment (English)
Grade 1 - Earlybird Early Literacy Assessment (English), MAP Growth ELA and Math (English)
Grade 2 - mClass (DIBELS 8), MAP Growth ELA and Math (English)
Grade 3 - mClass (DIBELS 8), MAP Growth ELA and Math (English)
Spanish Immersion Students in Kindergarten - Grade 3 will also take mClass (DIBELS 8) in Spanish. Students in the Spanish Immersion program in Grades 1-3 will take MAP Growth Literacy and Math in Spanish, not English.
English Language Learners will participate in ACCESS Testing (English) to measure growth in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Parent/Caregiver ECP Survey
The Maynard Public Schools has partnered with the Education Commonwealth Project (ECP), a research group now located at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, to administer our survey, which has been developed over the past year with the full cooperation and assistance of the district’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee and building based administrators. ECP is the group that facilitated our student and staff surveys over the past two years, and their reliable and valid surveys are currently in use in districts across the state, encompassing more than 10% of all students in Massachusetts public schools. Since all of the work done by ECP is state grant funded, there is no cost to the Maynard Public Schools for any of this work. More information on the Education Commonwealth Project can be found here: https://www.edcommonwealth.org/
The survey itself will take 15-20 minutes to complete. If you have students in multiple schools, it would be greatly appreciated if you could complete multiple surveys as they are specific to each school. The survey window will open today, May 1st, and close on Wednesday, May 15th. Parents with students at more than one school will receive a separate email and link for each school.
Notes on the survey:
The survey saves progress automatically. You can start, stop, and complete a survey that you started later.
All survey links are unique to the person receiving them and can only be submitted once. They will not work if forwarded to another email address.
Survey translations can be accessed in the dropdown menu in the upper right-hand corner of each page. (See the screenshot below.)
Thank you in advance for participating! Your feedback will help guide the district's strategic planning decision-making process.
Art Show!
Please join us for the Green Meadow Art Show Open House on May 23, from 5:00 - 6:15 PM.
Playground Reminders
The weather is getting nicer and it is wonderful to see so many families using our playground to gather and get to know each other. A few quick reminders as you supervise your children:
* Please remind children to respect the playground space and the people who are using it. Students take the Green Meadow pledge everyday to be Kind, Safe, Learners. We remind students that this is important even when teachers are not watching.
* The children are well-versed in our playground rules during the school day. If your child is using equipment in an unsafe way they can always be reminded to follow "school playground rules."
* During the school day, students do not play in the woods. This rule is in place for supervision purposes and because we are back in tick season. If your child plays in the woods after school we recommend you check them for ticks before leaving.
* Please ask children to return any big sticks or rocks to the woods before leaving the playground so it is ready to go the next day.
Thank you for your help! Please keep the outdoor play going during the last few weeks of school.
Preschool P.E. Open House
Our Preschool will be celebrating the end of the year with a PE Open House. Families are invited to attend one of the last physical education classes of the school year from 10:00 to 10:30 and participate in movement activities with their child.

-Thursday, May 23th: L. Paoletti's class

Families will arrive at 10:00 and leave at 10:30. AM students might be dismissed earlier on that day. PM students will be invited to attend gym class in the morning. Transportation for all students will be the responsibility of the families. The Preschool team will be in touch with additional details.
Welcome to the Counselor's Corner!
“We are kind. We are safe. We are learners”. Our Green Meadow motto highlights the importance of kindness within our school culture. Not only is it important to treat others with kindness, it is equally as vital to treat ourselves with kindness. This concept of self care can sometimes be confusing for kids. Here are five ways to teach the importance of self care and additional tips to help your children with basic wellness habits. Don’t forget to model your own self care! Additional SEL resources can be found on the Green Meadow Social Emotional Learning Resources website.
