Monday Memo - May 20, 2024
Washburne Families,
Thank you to our PTO for hosting around 100 7th graders on Friday afterschool. Students enjoyed snacks, music, basketball, four square, and hanging out with their friends.
We hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine this weekend. Our students are busy with end of year projects and assignments, and we are excited to finish the school year strong. We wanted to share a quick reminder that Friday, May 24th is a half day of student attendance with an 11:50am dismissal. There is a lot going on in the next few weeks, so please take a few minutes to read through the updates included in this memo.
Take Care and Be Well,
Andrew Fenton & Ben Horwitz
Carleton Washburne Principal & Assistant Principal

What’s Happening in Related Studies
In this section we will be shining the spotlight on our Related Studies program and all the wonderful opportunities available to our Washburne students.
¿Qué pasa en la clase de español?
Students have been working hard learning about how to describe their daily routine each day in Spanish. This includes daily activities, what time they do these activities and where they do these activities. Students are working on building their interpersonal speaking skills, asking and answering questions about each other's daily routines.
In addition, students are working on their reading skills in Spanish through reading novels, and reading passages.
We are excited to continue building their proficiency and production of the wonderful Spanish language!

Spring Benchmarking
Benchmark assessments are valuable tools that provide a snapshot of student progress at a point in time. These assessments help teachers to identify areas where students are excelling and where they may need additional support. They can also inform instructional decisions by providing data that can be used to tailor teaching to meet each student's unique needs and strengths. Benchmark assessments are an important component of progressive education, which recognizes that students learn in different ways and at different rates. By using benchmark assessments to inform instruction, teachers can provide a more individualized approach to learning that supports each student's academic growth and personal development.
Academic benchmark assessments for literacy and math will occur three times this year for students in grades K-8. The Spring Benchmark Assessments start on April 29th and conclude on May 17th. There are three platforms the district utilizes to gather student learning information; aimswebPlus, mCLASS, and NWEA MAP. Benchmarking reports will be mailed home on Wednesday, May 29th.
Assessment may be found on our district website in the Benchmark Assessment Section of ITL under Parent Communication on Student Learning. If you need further information on your child’s testing session, please contact your building principal.
