Week 29
It was, and will continue to be a busy week here at MUMS as some Spring Sports begin, and we prepare for VTCAP and also the end of Quarter 3!
Thanks so much to families who have supported their students in finishing the Quarter strong! We understand how stressful the time is and appreciate the partnership! Please reach out with any questions or concerns to teachers directly.
Next week we will be holding the VTCAP state assessment. We will test Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We will run a regular ERD schedule on Wednesday the 9th, and our 8th graders will take the Science test the following week in Science classes. Please do your best to have your student present and on time at school during this testing period, which will reduce the need for make ups which would dip further into classes later in the month. Additionally, students are not permitted to wear or have any "Smart devices" on their person during testing. This is a MUMS expectation regardless, but will be strictly enforced next week.
Thank you for your continued partnership and have a great weekend.
Best,
Michaela

From The MYP Coordinators
In their recent final summative for Language and Literature as a part of their “On the Edge of Our Seats” unit, all 8th graders created an original product that evoked suspense. The students could choose the kind of product they made-- short film, storyboard, painting, musical composition, story, poem, or play. They also wrote artists' statements to accompany their piece, describing the techniques they used and how they intended to impact their audience. Below, check out Ava’s original movie poster for a film she named “Codebreaker.” In her written piece, she describes in detail how she intentionally built an eerie setting through her use of perspective, color, shadows, and sensory details to evoke “an edge-of-your-seat feeling because when you think of darkness...you’re waiting for someone or something to pop out of the forbidden shadows.” Thank you to all of our 8th graders for demonstrating their innovation, perseverance, and original thinking, and to Mrs. Haugan and Mr. Aday for supporting them! Ask an 8th grader to tell you about what they created and the “why” behind it!

Smartwatches
This is a reminder as a rule students should not be wearing smartwatches during the school day. It is extremely important that you remind your student of this rule as we will be conducting VTCAP testing next week.

Student Attendance (absences/dismissals) and Bus Notes
- To report your child absent from school or notify us of an early dismissal please leave us a message on our attendance line by calling 382-1297 before 8:30 AM.
- If you send a student to school with an early dismissal note or bus note they should bring them the office before TA.
- All students taking a bus to another place other than home need a bus note from their caregiver. This note needs to be stamped/signed by one of our Administrative Assistant's in the front office. Students will not be allowed to ride a bus to another location without a note from home that is stamped/signed by the office.
