Weekly Wrap Up
Maple Place Middle School - 3/8/24 - Week 26
Principal's Message :
Good Evening, Maple Place Families,
There was certainly a lot happening at Maple Place this week. We had some great trips happen this week with our National Junior Honor Society students going over to Wolf Hill to celebrate Read Across America Week by sharing some of their favorite books with our littlest learners in Kindergarten and First Grade. Additionally, our Gifted and Talented fifth grade students along with fourth grade G&T students from Wolf Hill attended the InfoAge where they got to see how life was long ago - you know - back when many of us were growing up in the days of the rotary telephone! Please take a look at the pictures and video below. Thank you to Mrs. Richter (NJHS) and Mrs. Goldsmith (G&T) for organizing these wonderful opportunities for our students.
There are many more exciting events and activities coming up for the students (and families) of Maple Place. Please check out the many flyers below detailing upcoming events happening at Maple Place.
Lastly, I'd like to thank all the families who came out the past few days for Parent/Teacher Conferences. The partnership between home and school is a strength of the Oceanport community and one that only benefits the future of our students. Last year we began including the upper grade students into the conference process as we work to help our students to take responsibility for their own learning with our end goal being student led conferences. We appreciate your continued willingness to partner with us to help our students reach their true potential.
Monday the Oceanport School District will celebrate #SEL day. For more information on SEL day, please see the following website: https://selday.org/
Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Melissa Keiser

NJHS Students Read to Wolf Hill K & 1 Students:

It was a special event that made the Wolf Hill students excited! Thank you to Mrs. Richter for organizing this event for our students!
Romeo & Juliet Comes to Life in Grade 8:
4th & 5th Grade G&T Trip:
Earlier this week Gifted and Talented students in grades 4 & 5 went on a field trip to InfoAge where they learned so much about New Jersey and its rich history of innovations in technology, communications, as well as its military impact going back to World War II! The kids had a blast! Their favorite exhibit was the Communications room with every device imaginable from the switchboard to the telegraph to the first TVs to the earliest cell phones to rotary phones and Morse Code!
Check out the video that Mrs. Goldsmith put together of their adventures at InfoAge below!
8th Grade Info:
Additionally, there are various ways you can help to support this year's 8th Grade Class of 2024. We will be having a Dine to Donate night at Enzo's Pizza on Monday, March 18th. (See the flyer below for more information.) The eighth graders will also be selling snacks and kisses for the cast at this year's Spring Musical - Mean Girls, Jr. There also be a 50/50 each night of the play with the proceeds benefiting the 8th grade class. Also, there is the upcoming Basketball Game between the Maple Place basketball players and the OPPD. All proceeds from these fundraisers will go towards the end of the year activities for our eighth graders. We thank you for your continued support of our students!

Spring Sports:
Spring Sports are starting up at Maple Place. Mr. Vaccarelli and Ms. Docherty have both held their information meetings for baseball and softball. Students should have received a copy of the Athletic Teams' Guide for Students and Parents detailing the expectations required to be on a Maple Place athletic team. Additionally, there is a sheet that needs to be signed by both the student and a parent and returned to the coach prior to try-outs.
Spring Sports Try-outs have been scheduled:
Baseball Try-outs will be held Wednesday, March 13th through Friday, March 15th from 3:00-5:00 at Blackberry Bay Park.
Softball Try-outs will be held Monday, March 18th through Wednesday, March 20th from 3:00-5:00 at Blackberry Bay Park.
