Taking Learning to Infinity and Beyond
It is hard to believe that parent-teacher conferences are already here! We will be holding our PT conferences during the week of October 7-11. I encourage all parents to attend and learn about the current progress of your child both academically and socially. Our staff is excited to visit with all of you next week. Please call the office if you have any scheduling conflicts that arise!
MAP and DIBELS Testing
We have completed our first round of major literacy and math assessments this past month. We will utilize our MAP math results and our DIBELS reading results to determine next steps to provide instructional support and help our students continue to grow moving forward. Parents will receive this information during conferences in October.
Eagles Nest
We have introduced a new concept to support students in making respectful, responsible, and safe choices. Students and teachers will utilize a designated area in the classroom called "Eagles Nest" for breaks and processing to help students be successful in the classroom. We have taught self regulation skills (zones of regulation colors) and breathing techniques to support students when they may be struggling during the day. Please ask teachers about our Eagle Nest if you have questions.
Parent Tip
Continue to encourage your child to read at home as much as possible. We are hopeful our students in grades 3-5 take advantage of our Golden Sower and Read It Your Way challenges during the year. Parents of students in our primary grades can boost overall reading skills by simply reading a book with your child and helping them develop fluency and asking the 5W's when reading. (Who, What, Where, When, Why) Happy reading and learning!
Positive Referral Information for Parents!
Positive Referrals for Students
When our Shoemaker Eagles make choices that reflect being respectful, responsible, and safe they at times will earn a positive referral ticket and sticker. We ask parents that notice their child wearing a sticker on their shirts to ask how they earned their positive referral in order to reinforce that positive choice. Every Monday we have a prize drawing for every grade level from the positive referral tickets that students earn throughout the prior week. Thanks for your support with encouraging our students to always do their best in being respectful, responsible, and safe!
