A Message from the Superintendent
All People Welcome Here
Dear students, staff, families and community members.
I would like to take a moment as we start a new year to reassure that our schools have always been and will continue to be safe and welcoming places for all who enter our facilities.
We are committed to upholding our values of equity, excellence, family and community, and wellness. We also remain committed to our mission: "Working together as a team, we will end the predictive value of race, class, gender, and special capacities for our children’s success through high-quality teaching and learning for all. We seek to build relationships with families and communities to ensure that every student succeeds.
We will know every student."
To learn more about how our policies support this work, please read this statement that I made at the January 23 Board meeting. As the year continues, we will continue to address issues that affect our schools and students as the need arises.
Here's to a safe and happy new year.
Dr. Matthew Haas

In Case You Missed It
A lot has happened this month! Here's what we think is important to know:
ACPS In the News
Catch a roundup of our news coverage in the month of January!
Portrait of an ACPS Student
Zoey Downer found out about the National Civics Bee three days before the entry deadline. Although she was pressed for time, she thought it couldn’t hurt to submit an essay and see what would happen. As it turns out, her essay won at the regional level, which granted her entry to the national bee this past November in Washington, D.C. Read Zoey's portrait to learn more on our Portraits of a Division webpage.
Fostering Safe and Inclusive Schools
At Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS), we are dedicated to creating safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces where every student, staff member, and family can succeed. Our policies on anti-racism, equity education, nondiscrimination, and equal opportunities guide our efforts to build a sense of belonging, safety, and well-being for all.
Please read the letter sent out by our Office of Community Engagement for more details on how we provide safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces for all students.
