A few dignitaries were in attendance such as Washington County Public School Superintendent Keith Perrigan, school board member and Chair Debbie Anderson, and State Senator Todd Pillion. Several students gave speeches, as well.
Spring Fundraiser
Our Spring Fundraiser was a success. In keepiong with this year's theme "Building the Best You," this years' donors were asked to "sponsor a block" on each students' "wall". Each block ranged in value from $5-$20. The total raised for our school was $7,835.00! Thank you donors!
Principal for the Day
Students who had their brick walls for the fundraiser filled and sponsored had their names put into a pot to be drawn for the opportunity to be Principal for a Day. Violet R was the winner and spent a day shadowing Mr. Colston and assisting with administrative duties.
GES Talent Showcase
The annual GES Talent Showcase was held on March 20. There were eight acts this year that included instrumental, vocal, and dance. It was a wonderful show and we are very proud of these students stepping outside of their comfort zones and performing on stage in front of an audience.
Peter and the Wolf
The Southern Appalachian Dance Collective came to GES on March 31 to present a version of Peter and the Wolf through dance. Peter and the Wolf is a musical story composed by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev. In the story, different characters are represented by different instruments of the orchestra. Students do an in-depth study of Peter and the Wolf in first grade music classes. For this special event, students in all grades reviewed the story of Peter and the Wolf in their music classes.
FFA Visits Second Grade
FFA comes to visit second grade twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. Their visit this month was about the lifecycle of an apple tree. This ties into the 4th 9 weeks SOLs about life cycles of plants and animlas.
Upcoming GES Fun Run
GES has begun a fundraiser to support field day. Students will participate in a school wide fun run on April 11th during activity classes. The goal for students is to raise $1/min for 30 minutes!
