Seniors from Kennedy and Memorial High Schools took part in a beloved EISD graduation tradition this week. Dressed in their caps & gowns, they walked the halls of their elementary schools, giving high-fives to students. Seniors hope to show younger students that working hard in school will help them become graduates one day as well.

More than 200 people came out to the annual EISD Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Stadium. The event, put on by the Compadres for Scholarships, honors the EISD 55 and other fallen service members. This year's featured speakers were former US Ambassador to Argentina and EISD graduate Edward C Prado and Chief Warrant Officer 5 Sam 'Kiwi' Ngaropo, US Army North (Fifth Army).

During the ceremony, the Compadres for Scholarships unveiled a new memorial in honor of the 55 EISD students who died in the Vietnam War. They also presented to scholarships to eight graduating seniors from Edgewood Fine Arts Academy, Kennedy High School and Memorial High School.

Students at LBJ Elementary school have books to read this summer thanks to a big donation by a local high school senior.

Since 2019, Lauren Worrich has collected donations and books to give to area schools to help combat illiteracy through her organization "LEW's Dream." Worrich, who is dyslexic, is an avid reader and works to help students learn to love reading. While visiting LBJ Elementary she read to students, shared her favorite types of books to read and took pictures with them as they chose books of their own.

Each book also came with an encouraging note inside.

Worrich will attend the Univeristy of Kansas in the fall. She plans to become a special education teacher.

The Edgewood community came together for an evening of fun and safety at Loma Park Elementary. Families enjoyed food, performances, games and discussions led by EISD Police Officers about staying safe.
