Career Readiness- 6th & 7th Grade
As we kick off the new year, we are excited be able to provide our 6th and 7th grade students with an opportunity to focus on their futures through our Career Readiness Workshops!
Dragons engaged in various workshops throughout the day to include:
My Brand – Discover personal strengths and build a professional identity.
Career Paths & Clusters – Learn about diverse career options and industries.
Career Mapping – Set goals and create a roadmap to success.
On the Hunt – Develop strategies for finding opportunities and building connections.
Soft Skills – Master teamwork, communication, and other essential skills for future success.
These workshops offered a fun and interactive way for students to develop essential life skills, and begin planning a bright future.
Dragon Dad's Chat & Chew
Thank you to all of our dads that came to our Chat and Chew. We look forward to continuing to build this community with you. We invite our Dragon Dads to join the "Leading Strong Families and Communities in Today's Culture" webinar hosted by CREC's Fatherhood Initiative on February 18th at 5:30PM. See more information below. We will also be hosting a basketball tournament with all of our Dragon Dads and students with more information to come soon!
8th Grade History Research Exhibits
Ms. DeAngelis' 8th grade History classes presented their History Day Research Projects at our History Day Fair! The students have been working hard to conduct their independent research and created their exhibits, which they were excited to share with everyone! Topics ranged from Title IX, Childhood Labor, and Women Suffrage just to name a few.
Stress Less Week
The Mending Minds group created this idea to have a space where students could come during midterms in hopes that ongoing opportunities like this will help in shifting our culture and climate to a more preventative mental health focus! We were able to offer painting, sensory items/fidgets, quiet games, puzzles, Lego building, and much more to implement healthy stress management strategies to over 56 students during midterm week.
The Mending Minds group is excepting sensory donations. Email Mrs. Perlini @ nperlini@crec.org if you would like to donate!
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAURETE PROGRAMME
IB Learner of the Month
Each month at International, we focus on one of the IB Learner Profile traits, and celebrate scholars and teachers who exemplify them. As partners in education, we love sharing ways that you can support the development of these traits at home.
January - Open Minded
To start the new year off right, the IB learner profile trait for January is open-minded. As open-minded lifelong learners, we critically appreciate our own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willing to grow from the experience.
To encourage open-mindedness in your students, here are a few suggestions. Happy new year!
Encourage students to try new things – new foods, new games and new activities.
Expose students to different festivals, celebrations and traditions and be sure to present them in a non-judgmental way.
Encourage students to really listen to others when they speak.
Introduce literature about many different cultures into your home library. Be sure that it is appropriate and reflects the culture in an appropriate way.
Introduce students to other countries, cultures, global issues, and perspectives.
Middle Years Programme (MYP)
STEM and IB: One terrific example of their connection!
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP) has a strong focus on design thinking through its design cycle. This design cycle aligns very well with principles of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education.
The IB MYP design cycle is an iterative process students go through to identify problems or needs, research an issue, develop potential solutions, create prototypes or models, test them, evaluate the testing, and modify as necessary. This mirrors the engineering design process used by STEM professionals to solve problems through technological innovation.
The open-ended, creative nature of the IB MYP design cycle encourages the kind of critical thinking, troubleshooting, and innovation key to careers in fast-growing STEM fields. Going through the design process gives students project-based experience with essential STEM practices.
In this way, the IB framework provides the ideal avenue for interdisciplinary STEM learning, allowing students to master technical skills while exercising their creativity. Engaging with design thinking enhances their problem-solving, collaboration, communication and presentation abilities - building a solid foundation for future studies and careers.
PARENT ENGAGEMENT SURVEY
Why are Parent Teacher Conferences important to you?
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Report an Absence
Need to report an absence?
Email: AISATTENDANCE@CREC.ORG
Be informed regarding Attendance
Attendance Matters ALL YEAR LONG!
- The school day is from 7:30-2:05.
- Scholars missing school for 3 cores or more will be considered absent for the day.
- Attendance matters for all classes so if a scholar can only attend 1 or 2 cores for an excused reason, we highly recommend they do.
Scholars absent more than 10% of the school year (18 days) are considered CHRONICALLY ABSENT by the State. The first 9 absences are excused with parent communication to the school. Ten and over will require specific documentation for reasons listed in the handbook (located on our website).
High School Scholars: Loss of credit for a class can occur after 12 absences (Half Year Courses) or 24 absences (Full Year Courses). Please contact your Counselor to discuss how credit can be recovered.
Please remind your child of the importance of waking up early and being in school daily. If you need support and resources please contact Ms. Gibson at sgibson@crec.org or their school counselor (listed below).
