The Siegrist Star
Week of October 7, 2024
What's Happened this Week!
Collaboration!
Siegrist students had a wonderful Lead Day experience last week! Siegrist students from the Career and Community Student Leader Team met their Northland Career Center (NCC) student ambassadors who are partnering with them. Partnering with the Northland Career Center (NCC) offers such valuable learning opportunities, and it was exciting for the students to meet their NCC student ambassadors and explore the facility. With hands-on activities and demonstrations planned, they’ll certainly have a lot to look forward to in upcoming Lead Days.
We are excited to partner with NCC Staff Leaders who helped us organize this: Ron Webster and Erica Hopper. Siegrist Staff Leaders: Karen Moreno and Lori Mann with our student leaders: Grace, Claire C., Evelyn, Arya, Jude, Morgan, Mya, Kamryn, McKinnah, Shea, Claire S., Alex, Walter, Aliyah, Madden, Delilah, Melina, Autumn, Kiersten, and Josie.
Happy Custodian Day!
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing custodians for keeping our schools clean, safe, and running smoothly! From early mornings to late nights, you ensure that classrooms, hallways, and cafeterias are always ready for learning. We appreciate your hard work and dedication every single day! Lighthouse team surprised the custodians last week with cards and goodies on National Custodial Day!

Leadership Award Celebration for August/September
Students who earned the Leadership Award for the month of August/September celebrated with a special ice cream treat, generously provided by our Pirates Rock partner, Nodaway Valley Bank. A big thank you to Susan Baker and Kerry Wetzel from Nodaway Valley Bank for taking the time to hand out the ice cream to our deserving award recipients.
We would also like to express our gratitude to Berenice Mausolf for organizing the awards and the ice cream social. Congratulations again to all our student leaders!
KC Water Program
We are excited to share that First Grade recently had the opportunity to participate in a hands-on learning activity with KC Water! During this special event, students learned how water travels from the ground to the ocean, gaining a deeper understanding of the water cycle and how our everyday actions affect our environment.
The activity also emphasized the importance of responsible citizenship. Students were encouraged to protect our water resources by picking up trash and being mindful of how we care for our environment. This experience, which took place on our LEAD Day, was not only educational but also a fun way for our young learners to understand how they can make a difference.
We are incredibly thankful to KC Water for partnering with us to bring this enriching experiment to life, and we hope your child enjoyed this unique learning experience.
High Five Friday!
This morning, we were excited to have students from Platte County High School join us to greet our students with warm smiles and high fives, helping to start their day on a positive note.
After the welcoming outside, the high school students joined a few of our classrooms during their morning meetings. They shared their thoughts on their chosen character traits and what those traits mean to them as students and young leaders.

Siegrist Literary Pumpkin Project
The Siegrist Library is inviting you to participate in our optional Literary Pumpkin Project. Siegrist families may create a pumpkin and send it to school to be displayed in the library. It is easiest if the pumpkins are a size that the students can carry into the school and carry home themselves (fake pumpkins are very lightweight)!
How to participate:
Decorate a pumpkin or gourd to look like a children’s storybook character or represent a book. Fake pumpkins/gourds are a great choice because they are lightweight and do not rot.
Bring your decorated pumpkin to the Siegrist Library during the week of Monday, Oct. 7, 2024. Pumpkins will be on display in the Siegrist Library through Friday, October 18, 2024.
Don’t forget to take your pumpkin home on October 18. If a pumpkin begins to rot before it is picked up, it will have to be discarded. All real pumpkins/gourds that have not been picked up will be discarded on Monday, Oct. 21, 2024 so that PTA volunteers can have space to set up for our Scholastic Book Fair.
If you want some inspiration, go to Google and search for images of literary pumpkins.
Questions? Contact Mrs. Neal at: neal.dana@pcr3schools.org.
Why you should participate:
It builds school spirit!
Kids will love seeing all the creations!

PTA - We Need Your Help in the Siegrist Workroom!
First off, THANK YOU! We couldn’t make this program work without YOU!
One of the goals of PTA is to support our amazing teachers by helping with copying, printing, laminating, cutting, and assisting with projects. We’ve set up a simple process to make it easy for you to help:
- There will be a bin in the workroom where teachers will place their papers/projects with clear instructions on what they need and when they need it by.
- Once you’ve completed a project, please place the finished materials in the teacher’s mailbox.
If you’re available to volunteer, the Siegrist PTA has created a Sign-Up Genius for workroom help. We offer 3 slots per day, with options for both morning and afternoon shifts. You can choose to volunteer once or twice a week, or as your schedule allows—every little bit helps!
We truly appreciate your time and support. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at siegristelementarypta@gmail.com.
Thank you again for your dedication!

Friendly Parent Reminders
Visitors to the building: you will always need to bring your ID with you when you come into the building. We will scan your ID into our safety system Platte County uses to ensure the safety and security of our students.
Birthday Celebrations-Here is the district policy:
"We believe it is important for the school to recognize our students on their birthday and other special days. However, for several reasons including increased food allergies, preservation of the instructional day, and student equality, students are not allowed to bring treats from home or have flowers/balloons or other items delivered to the classroom for birthdays, going-away parties, or other personal events. Each classroom teacher will recognize the student in a special way to celebrate his or her birthday. (See Snacks for more information about opportunities to share snacks in the classroom) If a student receives a delivery at school, the student will be notified to come to the office to view the item. Parents will be responsible for transporting the item home. Birthday party invitations may only be distributed if invitations are given to every student in the class."
Transportation:
If your child has a transportation change for the day, please call the office before 2:00 PM. This ensures we can process the change in time before dismissal. You may also send a note with your child or email Anne Klopp at klopp.annemaire@pcr3schools.org.
If we do not receive a call, note, or email regarding transportation changes, we will follow the information already in our system to send your child home.
For any permanent transportation changes, please refer to the "Important Links" section below.
Additionally, please click on the "Transportation Expectations" button below to review important bus and car rider guidelines with your child.
Student Illness/Injury:
If you're unsure whether to send your child to school due to illness, please click the button below. Our nurse has provided important information on her Siegrist webpage about when to keep a sick child at home. There is also guidance on what happens if your child is injured while at school.
