Carver Family Newsletter
April 4-8, 2022
From the Principal's Office
I hope that you have head a restful and enjoyable time this past week, and are ready to push forward toward the conclusion of our school year!
We are looking forward to seeing all of our scholars tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM.
Please share this newsletter with 3 Carver families! Let's keep each other in the know!
Warmly,
Principal Manning
COVID19 Home Tests
Please help us stop the spread of COVID19 by testing your child tonight or tomorrow morning using one of the test kits. You do NOT need to send proof of the test results to myself or Mrs. White, unless the test is positive. (Email positive results to whitec1@sfusd.edu)
If your child tests positive on a home kit, please keep him/her home and follow up with your health care provider for further testing and treatment options.
Carver staff has been asked to self-test before returning to school tomorrow, also.
Thank you for helping us curb the spread of COVID19.
Bell Schedule
Instruction starts at 8:40AM. Students who arrive after 8:40AM are considered tardy. On time arrival is critical for student success in school.
Dismissal is at 2:55PM daily, except Wednesdays, when we dismiss at 1:40 PM.
Please refrain from early pickups. Our school day is planned around the number of instructional minutes that students are to receive in all of their subjects. Late arrivals and early departures interrupt learning time and students will miss important information or assignments.
Thank you for your cooperation and support with this effort.
Uniforms
Our uniform consists of navy blue pants, walking shorts, skorts, skirts, or jumpers. All students must wear a white collard or polo shirt.
Students should wear a supportive shoe to protect their toes and ankles during PE and recess games. Shoes may be any color.
We discourage students from wearing CROCS to school. Please note that if a student wears CROCS, he/she will not be allowed to play 4-square, basketball, or wall ball. We have this school policy in place to protect students from foot and ankle injuries that we have witnessed as a result of wearing a non-supportive shoe.
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe.
Food and Snacks
Lunch is served daily at respective lunch periods, and all students are offered lunch upon arrival to the cafeteria.
Your child may bring food from home if he/she prefers. Please be reminded of the type of foods that may NOT be brought to school. If students bring these items to school, they will be kept in the main office and returned to the student at the end of the school day.
-sodas/juice of any kind (including apple juice or orange juice)
-Gatorade
-powdered pour-ins (crystal light/kool aid pour ins)
-Starbucks frappes/hot chocolate/iced teas
-candy of any kind and gum
-potato chips/Takis/cheetos
-cookies/cupcakes
-fruit snacks
-Ramen soup (Carver staff is not allowed to heat water or serve hot water to students for safety reasons)
-any peanut butter or peanut butter-filled snack (Carver is a peanut free school due to the many nut allergies we have amongst children).
-Happy Meals or any fast food
Here are some ideas of what students can bring to school:
-lunchables (as long as the cookie or candy is removed)
-popcorn
-pretzels
-fresh fruit
-salads/sandwiches
Students may bring water in a bottle or an empty water bottle, as we have filtered water dispensers that students have access to all day.
State Testing (Grades 3-5)
This year, grades 3, 4, and 5 will participate in a computerized assessment of their knowledge in reading/language arts, math, and science.
The dates are as follows:
-5th Grade Science (April 18-22)
-3rd, 4th, 5th English/Language Arts (May 2-6)
-3rd, 4th, 5th Math (May 9-13)
Attendance is going to be critical for all of our students during these testing windows. We will have incentives for students who arrive on time every day during the SBAC.
We will also have village discussions and share ideas on how to prepare for the subject tests, as well as how to stay focused and energized during the exam.
Hint: Stamina is key! Students can spend 30 minutes per day reading and thinking about their reading as an EXCELLENT way to prepare for the SBAC!
