In the month of December, we had 47 behavior referrals including 22 majors and 25 minors. The most common referrals were for physical aggression/contact, defiance, and disrespect. The most common location for a behavior was the classroom (22), followed by the cafeteria. As we return from the Holiday recess, we will be taking time across the school environment to review our behavior expectations for all areas of the building.
A highlight from the School Wide Positive Behavior System (SWPBS) committee from the month of December was having two fifth grade student representatives join the monthly committee meeting. Our two fifth graders shared some great ideas to support our positive behavior initiatives. They shared both incentives and ways to build a positive climate amongst the school community from the student perspective. We look forward to implementing some of these ideas in as we move into the second half of the school year.
We ask that you review with your child appropriate behavior at school.
Perfect Attendance
We are excited to announce that we had 157 students across our K-5 school community who received Perfect Attendance for the month of December.
We strongly encourage all our students to present and on time for school each day!
Winter Weather
We ask that all students are sent to school with proper winter wear each day. Please review our weather conditions for outdoor recess below. Please also check out our Lost and Found found in both schools for many missing items!
Weather Conditions
Students will play outdoors when:
Temperatures are above 25℉ with consideration given to wind chill factor (www.weather.com)
There is light precipitation (e.g. snow flurries, drizzle)
Snow is on the ground, depending upon how different play areas are affected
Playground/Field Conditions
Students will be permitted to use playground equipment, fields, and asphalt play areas when conditions are suitable for safe play. Safety considerations included:
Equipment that is dry and ice free
Fields that are not muddy or icy and asphalt play areas that are not icy
Snow that is not deep enough to inhibit students walking/running
PTO
This month's PTO Meeting will be held on Thursday, January 9th at 6:00 p.m. at Grandview Elementary. The PTO Movie Night will be held on Friday, January 24th. More information to come!
If you interested in being a part of the PTO, please email. Gvimpto@gmail.com .
Benchmark Testing
This month, our students will be taking the second round of our Linkit! and Acadience BenchmarkTesting. This data will allow our Data Team and our teachers to best support students with their reading and math skills.
Please make sure students come to school well rested, fed with a healthy breakfast, and have their computers charged for testing.
We are looking forward to seeing the growth of our students from the beginning of the year!
This Month in Classroom Champions is all about Perseverance
January is all about Perseverance in Classroom Champions! This month, Rosie will teach students that perseverance is a life skill that can be best developed through having a growth mindset -- which underscores the notion of grit and resilience, all of which is fundamental to setting and achieving big goals whether on the field, in the classroom, or out in life.
Our January Citizen of the Month focus will be on those student's who show perseverance this month!
