FPE Community Newsletter 09/20/23

Principal's Message:
Greetings Forest Park Students and Families,
Extreme Heat: I continue to receive ongoing communications from the district around extreme heat forecast tomorrow (09/05) and Friday (09/06). Currently, all classroom a/c units operate properly, keeping rooms cool. Our custodians check portable and building classrooms, using hand-held temperature monitors, and communicate findings with me. I am also monitoring Portland air advisories each day this week (link).
Students, please bring a water bottle filled with cool water. We have 5 water stations where you can refill your bottle and cool down (families, ask your students to describe the location of each). If temperatures rise quickly and high in the mornings, I will conduct recess indoors. Updates will be shared through Remind messages if necessary.
Fall picnic: I look forward to all the food, fun, and bouncing scheduled from 5pm to 7pm Thursday, September 5th. Bring extra water (iced-tea) tho...it's going to be hot! See you there!
Back to School Night: Please plan to meet us for Back to School Night next Thursday, September 12th from 6pm to 7pm. We will start in the gymnasium to meet all staff and introduce newly hired staff members. We will then provide two passing times for families whose children are in multiple classrooms.
Parking Lot a.m./p.m.: Thank you families for your patience in our school parking lot, especially during dismissals! Changes in school hours (now going until 2:30pm) resulted in initial scheduling conflicts for buses upon dispatch to school dismissal. This resulted in me needing to open a third line of cars to allow buses onto campus at 2:25pm! My plan is to arrange to have buses on campus before the car line reaches the street. I appreciate how slowly and carefully automobiles have been driven through our lot. There’s plenty of parking in both the front and back lots, as well as along the streets if you ever feel like getting out of the car and taking a stroll before dismissal! Please double check this slide-deck about arrival-dismissal traffic patterns. Please remain with your car at all times unless you park in a stall or on the street.
