SMART PROGRAM UPDATE
The SMART Program is an $800 million bond that provides critically needed funding for Broward County Public Schools. SMART addresses elements of Safety, Music & Art, Athletics, Renovations, and Technology at schools across the District.
Pines Middle School is currently in the Hire Contractor phase of its Primary Renovations. The contractor has been selected and Board approval of the agreement is anticipated in Summer 2020. Once the contractor is permitted to proceed with construction, renovations will begin across campus.
The Renovations element of the SMART Program largely focuses on improving schools and the educational experience of students. A six-step process is put in place to ensure that all Primary Renovation projects are completed efficiently.
ENHANCEMENTS:
- Bldg envelope improvements (re-roofing of building 6)
- HVAC improvements (campus-wide test and balance)
As part of the School Choice Enhancement Program (SCEP), schools are allocated $100,000 to spend at their discretion. Common uses of the funds include laptops, golf carts, projectors, and classroom furniture for students and teachers.
