Welcome to Dunn Elementary
~an IB World School
Hello PSD Families,
I am Abby Himlie, Principal at Dunn Elementary School. As you may know, your options for schools in Poudre School District are varied and impressive. I encourage you to consider what an education at Dunn would provide for your child and family.
Dunn is a neighborhood elementary school in the heart of Fort Collins. Over 250 students choice in to Dunn, and for good reasons. We serve students in our local neighborhood, including children of students and staff at CSU, providing us the privilege of welcoming students from across the globe as their parents study in Fort Collins.
An IB education prepares students to be problem-solvers, communicators, and advocates within their own education. If you are registered at Dunn, you have experience to share with others. If you are considering Dunn, I invite you to attend our Kindergarten Information Night on Monday, December 2 at 5:30pm or come in for an Open House building tour on December 3, 4, or 6. Details for both of these events are below.
I look forward to meeting with you,
Abby
What is International Baccalaureate?
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
IB Schools are held to high standards, through regular authorization evaluation cycles conducted by the International Baccalaureate Organization, to stay current in best practices of teaching and learning with a focus on student inquiry, voice and choice in their learning.
IB programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
Why IBPYP?
IBPYP is the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (Kindergarten-5th grades)
IB is for ALL students - we provide individualized support for students, teach CO state standards, and celebrate all of our children's strengths and differences.
- IB students leave elementary with the ability to ask questions about their learning, solve problems, and work collaboratively.
-
IB teachers approach instruction by connecting math, literacy, science, social studies, art, music, PE, and Spanish through a broad theme and make that learning authentic for students.
- IB schools provide a positive school climate that supports students to develop the skills and attributes of the learner profile .
