Top 20 Focus: Mistakes
This month we are focusing on mistakes. Mistakes are wonderful. Many things can be learned from mistakes and risk-taking. For that reason, we want students to value mistakes, not avoid them.
Whether we know it or not, we can respond to every mistake we make in one of five ways. We can operate like a Bottom 80 and deny we made the mistake; we can blame someone else; we can make excuses; we can dwell on the mistake; or we can operate like a Top 20 and own the mistake and learn a lesson.
The purpose of mistakes is to learn a lesson. Top 20s treat mistakes as teachers. They take responsibility for their mistakes and learn the lesson life is trying to teach them.
Celebrate mistakes at home. Ask your child, "What did you learn from this mistake? What will you differently next time?"
