Letters From Leadership
September 12, 2024
Dear Families,
Ethan Hawke wrote a book. It’s entitled Rules for a Knight. When it arrived on my porch from Amazon, I devoured it. I studied English as an undergrad. I quickly came to embrace, with passion, Medieval literature. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Beowulf. King Arthur. Knights battling the forces of evil. Legends are born on the pages of this genre. I can confidently say that Hawke’s Rules for a Knight successfully rejuvenated the genre.
The rules embrace strength.
Resilience.
Honor.
Gentlemanship.
Three takeaways from Hawke’s book:
Takeaway 1: “You are not fragile. Engage. Being timid is often the result of being too self-critical and too self-concerned. A knight does not stop at each victory. He pushes on to risk a more significant failure.”
Takeaway 2: “Beware of wanting or needing too much praise. Believe in yourself. Discipline, preparation, and experience are the only tools you need.”
Takeaway 3: “Everyone wants to be a knight. Wanting is no great accomplishment. How hard you work is the difference between good and great.”
I encourage you to discuss these takeaways as a family. These takeaways align with Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH). The rules of the Round Table and CKH reinforce our efforts to empower our scholars to embrace life-long learning and honorable leadership.
Honored to Serve You All,
Janet Worley

DCSD Bond Initiative
SkyView Academy will benefit directly if this measure passes since every charter school in the district is able to add capital priority needs to the DCSD master capital plan.
SVA maintains a lost and found bin at both the east and north entrances of the school. SVA recommends that students check it periodically for lost clothing or belongings.
