Dear Crow Island Families,
We want to thank the Crow Island PTO, Ms. Maneck, and Mrs. Demas Hall for helping to coordinate the Book Fair. This year, our sales surpassed those of previous years, and some of the proceeds will support the PTO. In addition, our staff truly appreciates the books purchased by countless families for the classrooms. We are very grateful to the PTO for their support of the Book Fair.
This week, we also wanted to highlight our Kinetic Wellness (KW) classes with Coach Sweene and Coach Wilson in all K-4 classrooms. We have included a brief update and pictures below. This is part of our ongoing effort to showcase the fantastic work happening in our Related Arts classrooms.

Monday Spirit Days:
As a reminder, every Monday is considered a Crow Island Spirit Wear Day. Staff and students are encouraged to participate.
Spotlight on Related Arts | Kinetic Wellness (KW):
Kinetic Wellness is off to a great start this year. We have settled into our curriculum and established a nice routine with our students. On Monday, we always engage in a fitness activity. Tuesday through Thursday is dedicated to curriculum work, and we finish the week with Fun Friday. Last week, we focused on Thanksgiving-themed games, which the kids loved. This week, the district Kinetic Wellness team will attend the IAHPERD (Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education, and Recreational Dance) Conference for professional development. We are proud to have some of our elementary school teachers presenting at the conference. We are fortunate to have a district that supports and values all related arts, ensuring a bright future for our program.
Resource Center & Technology (From Ms. Maneck, Mrs. Banas, and Ms. Rassmussen)
For November and December, our theme for the RC/MakerSpace is "Our Identities, Families, and Traditions are Important". This is a time of year where we spend a lot of time with families and participate in our own traditions. One tradition is the food we make with our families. For our community project, we are asking families & staff to share a recipe that is special to them. We will collect recipes via this Google Form and create a Crow Island Recipe Book that will be sent digitally to all families & staff. Please only submit one recipe and submit your recipes by Friday, December 20.
Winter Sing Information:
We are looking forward to seeing you all at this year’s Winter Sing on Thursday, December 19th! Children will perform at each performance time, but as always, students may sit together with their families during their family's performance time when they are not onstage. You are all invited to join us at the time assigned to your last name:

In this year’s sing, we are celebrating the notion of giving back to our community. In addition to the sing (and singalong), we will have a donation drive for the New Trier Township Food Pantry, where we will be collecting goods outside the Crow Island auditorium on the 19th. Winter Sing Registration
All visitors will need to be entered through our security system and receive a visitor badge.
To avoid long lines during the Winter Sing we are asking all guests to pre-register so that we can print visitor badges in advance. Please use this link to RSVP and register and each visitor will need to register.
Dimensions of Belonging:
The Dimension of Belonging featured in December is “Known” and monthly observances include Human Rights Month, Hannukah, and Christmas. Learn more by reading the Belonging Means… Newsletter which features contributions from The Skokie School and the Department of Communications, Safety & Security.
Kindergarten Registration:
Registration for incoming kindergarteners and students new to The Winnetka Public Schools in 2025/2026 will begin November 18, 2024. Children who will be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2025, are eligible to enroll. Questions related to School Admissions and age requirements are addressed in School Board Policy 7:50 School Admissions and student Transfers to and from Non-District Schools.
