LOVE PRAYER
Jesus, you said that it is by our love that we are known to be your followers.
Give me the courage to accept your call to love one another, as you love me.
Allow me to understand that to be of service,
to give myself to others,
I must first know and love you.
Help me to share in your self-sacrificing love.
May I understand your call to live in love, so that I can live in you, and do God’s will.
We ask this with joy and gratitude,
AMEN
Administrator's Message
We are celebrating the holiest time of year in the life of the Church - the Triduum. As we gather to celebrate the Paschal Mystery of the Lord, we remember Jesus’ example of service at the Last Supper, his agony in the garden, and his suffering and death on the cross. We reflect on the sacrifice that Jesus made on Good Friday, and celebrate His glorious Resurrection on Easter Sunday, rejoicing in the outpouring of Easter graces.
During the Lenten and Easter seasons, parents and teachers placed a heightened emphasis on discussions about religion and spirituality with our children so that they came to appreciate the beauty and mystery of our Catholic Christian faith story.
We help our children see that Jesus’ mission was to teach the Good News, heal the broken-hearted, and liberate the marginalized. We reflected on how Jesus’ mission led Him to a torturous death that he willingly embraced for us. We rejoice that the Risen Christ continues to animate this mission of love in action today!
Wishing all our families a blessed Easter,
T. Podobnik & C. Fernandes
In April, we celebrate the virtue of Love.
God wants us to serve and to see goodness in everyone we meet.
A loving person…
wants the best for others
is willing to make sacrifices for the good of others
knows that we are all lovable
prays for others
We are Called to Love / Appelés à aimer
“If we love one another, God lives in us.”
(1 John 4:12)

Dogs on School Property

Immunizations Clinic- April 5, 2024
Vaccine clinics for routine immunizations (Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Hepatitis B (Hep B), or Meningococcal ACYW-135) are coming to your school! To help protect your child from severe diseases and get them back on track, Peel Public Health will be offering immunizations to students at their school. If your child is eligible for any of these immunizations, visit School vaccination program and follow the instructions to fill out the consent and the standard assessment questionnaire. Some students may have existing consent from earlier this school year or from previous years or parents may have completed an online or verbal consent. These students do not need to complete a new consent unless the consent option has changed. If you have any questions or want to learn more, please visit peelregion.ca/immunize or call us at 905-799-7700
Morning Procedures
Just a reminder that parents are asked to remain behind the Red lines marked by a Stop Sign on the pavement from 8:30 am to 8:45 am to allow students to play together safely, and for line of sight for our teachers on duty. Students are reminded to be not playing with balls before school.
School Day Kiss and Ride
Just a reminder our school day commences at 8:45am. Parents who are driving, are asked to drive their children on the left side of the Kiss and Ride lane so staff supervising are present to assist children exiting cars and make their way to the sidewalk. Please avoid parking in our bus lane which is located on the right side. As always, we ask for patience during our arrival and departure times of school.
Change in weather
At this time we would like to remind all students to dress appropriately for the season by wearing the proper spring attire which should include hats, coats and boots. When students are dressed properly for the changing conditions, they can go outside and enjoy some fresh air and activity in comfort.
Field Conditions
At St. Edmund, we are so fortunate to be allowed to use City of Mississauga's field and parks for our students. As a courtesy to them, our neighbours, we constantly monitor the field for wet and muddy conditions to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
St. Edmund is Allergen Aware
IMPORTANT REMINDER
Some of the students in our school have severe life threatening allergic reactions to nuts, peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oils and any peanut byproducts. For some children the smell of nuts can bring on a severe attack. We need your cooperation! We kindly ask that you DO NOT send snacks to school that contain nuts or any nut products.
Please note that to ensure the continued safety of all students, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board with the support of the Anaphylactic Society and the Peel Health Department has recommended that students not bring peanut butter alternatives (soy butter, sunflower butter) to school. We thank you for your cooperation in supporting student safety
Cellphone Communication
This is just a reminder that cell phone communication is not permitted during the school day. If you need to connect with your children, please contact the school and we will support this communication. Students responding to text messages on their phones during class time provides a significant distraction from learning. We understand that many children have phones to let their parents know that they have arrived at school safely; the recommendation is that they inform you they are present, and then put their phones away.
We also remind parents and students that taking pictures, and recording video of students or teachers during the school day is prohibited, ESPECIALLY when there is no consent.
September Class Placements 2024
In May of each year, teachers and administrators work together to determine class placements. This is a complex process, and is done in consultation with this years’ teachers, support staff and administration.
In each class we strive for a balance of learning styles, a balance of gender, a balance of learning needs, and a cross section of abilities.
If you as a parent wish to provide input into the process, please take into consideration the following guidelines:
· Input must be in written form to Mr. Podobnik no later than May 10, 2024 or via email to the st.edumundinfo@dpcdsb.org
· Frame your request in terms of educational contexts e.g. your child’s learning needs/style; information not already known to the school; tips on what has worked best for your child in the past
· Please be advised that letters which cite the names of individual teachers, or names of children you wish to be placed with your child will not be considered.
· There is no guarantee that requests will be fulfilled, but all will be considered.
Annual Volunteer of the Year Award
Please find attached nomination forms for the Annual Volunteer of the Year Award. This award has been developed to acknowledge the dedicated individuals who make a significant contribution to supporting Catholic education. Volunteers play a very important role in our schools and in our communities, helping to build vibrant, caring, inclusive, faith filled school communities. This award will recognize an individual who exemplifies volunteerism in Dufferin-Peel. The award process is also a means to thank volunteers for their continuous years of commitment and dedication. The candidate chosen as the Volunteer of the Year and all the nominees for the award will be recognized and celebrated at the June 20th, 2024 meeting of the CCCSC and at the fall meeting of Catholic School Council Chairs.
Nominations can be initiated by anyone within your school community, but should be supported by administrators.
Nominees can be parents, administrators, non-teaching board/school staff members (i.e., custodian, secretary, maintenance staff, support services, etc.), teachers, students or community members.
