THANK A TEACHER GIVEAWAY
Apply Or Nominated an Educator for the Walter Kase Educator Excellence Award!
Dear Educators and Community Members,
ADL Southwest is thrilled to announce the Walter Kase Educator Excellence Award, created to honor educators who champion diversity and foster inclusive environments in our schools. Named for Holocaust survivor and advocate Walter Kase, this award celebrates educators who challenge stereotypes, promote empathy, and build understanding within their communities.
Each year, three exceptional educators are selected to receive this award, which includes a $500 stipend and an engraved plaque recognizing their contributions. We invite applications from teachers, administrators, and student support staff who integrate diversity into their curriculum, encourage students to confront their own biases, and empower them to reject hate in all forms.
If you or someone you know exemplifies these values, we encourage you to submit an application or nomination. Thank you for helping us honor those who work tirelessly to create a more inclusive and understanding world. For additional questions about this award, please reach out to ADL Texas Education Director, Dr. Chantel L. Henderson at chenderson@adl.org.

HUMBLE ISD ANNUAL VOLUNTEER/CHAPERONE APPLICATION
An application MUST be completed every year.
Attendance is Vital
Inform the school within 48 hours to mark the absence as excused using one of these options:
- Fill out the online absence form at humbleisd.net/attendancecontacts -or-
Email the campus attendance office (Karen.Drew@humbleisd.net) -or-
Send in a paper note, or take a photo with your phone and send it to the attendance office -or-
Call the school’s attendance specialist at 281-641-1403
For medical or dental appointments:
Get a note at the appointment and upload it into the online absence form at humbleisd.net/attendancecontacts -or-
Turn it in to the attendance office within 48 hours.
Did You Know?
Dated health care appointment notes allow the school to mark your child present if they attended any part of the school day, such as before or after their appointment.
When students stay in school until 10 a.m. (Elementary) or 10:40 a.m. (Middle School), it ensures the school receives full funding for the day. Your support in ensuring your child’s attendance not only helps them academically, but also boosts the school’s success.
Thank you for partnering with us to provide the best educational experience for our students.
Did you know . . . ?
If your student has a doctor's visit but attends school for part of the school day, he/she is not charged with an absence by the state as long as the attendance office receives documentation of the office visit.
A court visit by the student is not counted as an absence if the attendance office receives the court note for documentation.
In order for an absence to be changed from unexcused to excused, documentation must be provided to the school attendance office within 48 hours from when the student returns to school. After 48 hours, the absence will remain unexcused, unless approved by a campus administrator.
You can keep track of your son/daughter's attendance and grades by signing in to the Home Access Center (HAC). If you have not yet set up a HAC account, you can do so at that time.
