June 2025
June 1, 2025
Let me begin with a giant THANK YOU for a great school year! I cannot believe it is the end of the school year!
Thank you Mrs. Lepage for another great field day today!! We wish her well in her retirement! We were lucky enough to have our new PE teacher, Ms. Duda here today to get acquainted with our community. We are especially grateful to the PTO for the ice pops for the students, and the parents that were able to volunteer to help make all the events run smoothly!
On Thursday this week our students celebrated all the PAWS tickets they earned this year by enjoying a Kona ICE treat. We have wonderful students here and they have done an excellent job at being Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Caring!
We will send off our 5th graders with a fantastic car parade on Wednesday 6/11, and we said congrats to the graduating Seniors on Tuesday!
Reminder: June 10th ,11th, and 12th are EARLY DISMISSAL days - no lunch served and June12th is the LAST DAY of SCHOOL
Please note, the office will be relocated to Glen Acres this summer. We will be available Monday-Thursday 8a -4p this summer. Offices will be closed on Fridays. You can still reach us at 484-266-2002 and our emails.
Have a great summer!

Wellness Committee
As we enter into the summer months, please be sure to apply sunscreen frequently to your children to avoid severe sunburn. Sunburn during childhood has been linked to a higher risk of developing skin cancer. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, every child needs sun protection and recommends that all children, regardless of their skin tone, wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Reading Olympics is coming to Hillsdale
We’re excited to announce that Hillsdale will be participating in Reading Olympics for the first time next school year—just for 4th and 5th graders! This fun and engaging program, run by Ms. Szczesny, our school librarian, encourages teamwork and a love of reading as students work together to read from a list of selected books. At the end of the year, teams will compete by answering questions about the books in a friendly competition against students from elementary schools all across Chester County!
If your child is interested in participating, please fill out this short interest survey:
Reading Olympics Interest Survey
More details, including book lists and team information, will be shared in the fall!
Lost and Found - all items will be donated 6/12

RENOVATION UPDATES
You may have seen the dumpsters and materials being delivered to our parking lot as well as the installation of a new fence around the area where the addition will be constructed over the next year. We are expecting construction of the new stairwell outside rooms 109 and 309 to begin soon.
Additionally, you may notice movement in the fields behind the building as we prepare for the upcoming addition. Trucks, trailers, and equipment will be part of our routine moving forward.
This summer, we are completely renovating the Upper and Lower Pods to include 18 large classrooms, a new Reading suite, and other spaces for support teachers. Our office will be relocated to Glen Acres Elementary School from June 16th until August 16th.
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR 2025-26 SCHOOL YEAR
Registration is open for new students. Please go to the District website to fill out an online application. Our school secretary. Mrs. Espenshade, will be in touch to finalize the registration. Tell your neighbors and friends!
If you or a friend needs assistance with registration, please fee free to contact our school caseworker, Mrs. Eli Garduno, at egarduno@wcasd.net.
Attendance and Pick Up Patrol Reminder
When your child is absent please update Pick Up Patrol to reflect this AND send us an email or note after the absence. Please also use PUP to communicate any appointments (late arrival/early dismissal) and/or any changes to your child's dismissal plan.
A few things to note:
- Pick Up means you are driving through the car line to get your child after 3:30
- Early Dismissal is for when you are signing your child out before 3:30pm for any reason
- Walker means you are walking to school or parking your car and walking up to retrieve your child.
Even with Pick Up Patrol, if your child is absent, we must have a note from you to explain the absence within 3 days of your child's return. Otherwise the absence is marked as Unlawful and you will be receiving a letter from the office. (No one likes sending or receiving these letters!)
Each child is permitted 10 parent notes and 5 family vacation days each year for absences. Please use the family vacation form below or email me (pmerten@wcasd.net) with vacation requests.
Doctor’s notes are appreciated whenever you see a doctor due to illness.
