Meet Our Principals
Welcome to the 2024-25 school year at Virtual Academy Elementary!
I hope this message finds you well and that you've had a wonderful summer! As we prepare to begin the new school year, I want to extend a warm welcome to each of you, whether you're joining us for the first time or returning for another year.
My name is Dr. Angie Pohl, and I am honored to serve as the principal of Virtual Academy Elementary. Our staff has been hard at work preparing for a year full of learning, growth, and exciting new opportunities. We are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where every student can thrive.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we can make this a fantastic year for our students!
Sincerely,
Angie Pohl
As we kick off another exciting school year, I am thrilled to welcome both returning students and newcomers to One91 Virtual Academy Middle School and High School! This year, we are especially excited to introduce some new support resources designed to enhance the learning experience and help students achieve their goals.
Introducing Our New Additions to the Secondary Support Team:
Interventionists: We now have two dedicated Interventionists on staff who are here to assist students in developing essential skills in organization, reading, and math. They are committed to providing personalized support to ensure that every student can overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
Full-Time Virtual Academy Counselor: Our new full-time counselor is available to support students with academic advising, social emotional needs and personal development, and college planning. Whether students need help navigating your course load or planning for the future, our counselor is here to guide them every step of the way.
High School Advisory: We’ve also added a high school advisory program to provide additional support tailored to each student's needs. This program will offer check-ins, goal setting and communication about opportunities to help students stay on track and make the most of their high school experience.
We believe that these additions will provide invaluable support and contribute to a successful and enriching year for all of our secondary students. Our goal is to ensure that you have the tools and resources needed to thrive academically and personally.
Thank you for being a part of our vibrant learning community. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead and are here to support you every step of the way. Here’s to a successful and inspiring year.

School Issued Chromebooks
Elementary and Middle School students must use a school issued device. They may use an alternate device if arranged with the teacher and as a temporary solution. Students using non school issued devices are not able to access items only available on the school device, making learning difficult and can create a security risk. Starting Monday September 16, 2024 teachers will not admit a student into class without a school device, unless arranged ahead of time with the teacher.

Technology Levy Renewal
Reminder: Voting opens for the technology levy renewal starting Sept. 20
Beginning Thursday, Sept. 20, you can vote on whether to renew the school district’s current technology levy. The technology levy provides about $4.6 million per year to support classroom technology, learning devices (Chromebooks) and programs (Schoology and SeeSaw), technology safety and security systems and technology support staff.
Because it’s a renewal of an existing levy, there will be no tax increase if it’s approved.
You must be 18 years old on election day (Nov. 5) and a resident of District 191 to vote. Early voting can be done by mail or in person. Visit mnvotes.org to learn more about how to vote and to find your polling location.
If you want to learn more, the district will host public presentations from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30 at Hidden Valley Elementary and from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at Diamondhead Education Center. You can also visit isd191.org/referendum.

2024-25 Calendar Update
The 2024-25 school year in District 191 will include two early release days to accommodate professional development required by new state laws.
On March 28 and May 2, students will be dismissed from school 2.5 hours earlier than normal. The change will provide time for teachers to participate in training related to the state’s READ Act, which establishes new science-of-reading literacy instruction, curriculum and related professional development.
In addition, students will return from spring break on Monday, April 7, a change that brings the total number of school days to the typical 170. Adjustments to the calendar were approved by the Board of Education on Aug. 8.
