School Meal Assistance + Adding Funds to Child's Lunch Account
If you would like to apply for school meal assistance (lunch/breakfast at a free or reduced price), please use the link below. You will be able to complete an application here beginning July 18th. Please note that families must reapply each school year, and the sooner this is completed, the faster your child will have this in place for the start of the year.
https://www.dentonisd.org/childnutrition
It will prompt you to sign up for a SchoolCafe account first (or sign in if you already have an account from last year), then you may click on the benefits link within. This is also the place to add funds to your child's breakfast/lunch account if they will be eating in the cafeteria this school year.

What is Summer Reading Loss?
Students can experience what we call the Summer Slide during their time away from school in the summer, which means that on average they lose about 2 months of reading skills during a typical summer break. You can help prevent this slide for your children by engaging in learning activities with them at home and READING!! :)
Why is it Important?
Summer Reading Fun!
DENTON PUBLIC LIBRARY SUMMER READING CHALLENGE
Keep reading, earn free books!
To begin, create an account and start tracking your reading by using the "Log Reading" button. To earn a free book, read for 5 hours. You can earn another free book by reading for a total of 10 hours! Prize books can be picked up at any Denton Public Library location. Don’t stop there - for every additional 5 hours you read, you will automatically be entered into a drawing for an awesome DPL Prize Pack!
BARNES AND NOBLE SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Participation is a fun and easy way for kids to earn free books. They simply read a designated number of books – library books, books borrowed from friends or books bought at Barnes & Noble – write about their favorite part in our Reading Journal, and bring a completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Children then choose their free book from the books listed on the Reading Journal and collect their free book from a store near them during July and August.
RECYCLED BOOKS SUMMER READING CHALLENGE
June 1- August 31! This challenge is open to all kids under the age of 16. All you have to do is read 30 minutes a day, 4 days a week and turn in your reading log, linked below for a $5 credit to spend in the store!
CAMP BOOK IT!
Track and reward your kids' reading for June, July and August in our digital dashboard. When they meet their monthly reading goal, they'll receive a free one-topping Personal Pan Pizza® from Pizza Hut!
