Dr. Koop's Newsletter
November 15, 2024
Dear KRS families,
We were very fortunate to have KRS father Major Leasure speak to the students on Veterans Day. Thank you to Major Leasure for taking the time to plan and conduct the presentations!
This week, we began a Principal Puzzle Challenge, which will be held weekly throughout the school year. Every student will will attempt to solve and will discuss with their class the mathematical puzzle problems. For participating, students will be in a drawing to win a book vending machine token.
Please make sure that your child is reading this weekend!
Have a fantastic weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kathy Koop

What is your role at Kings Road School?
I am the Kings Road School Math Interventionist. I also work with Dr. Koop and other Madison administration to collect and analyze data to determine the best support(s) needed for our students using the MTSS model. Throughout the school year, I run a cooking club for our enrichment programs after school and I just recently started a Morning Mindfulness class that begins before school hours. It has been so much fun and I love working alongside each grade level here at Kings Road.
What are your qualifications to serve in your role?
I am a graduate of the University of Scranton with a dual degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. I also have my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have always been passionate about teaching and my classroom experience extends to many different grade levels and settings.
What do you like about Kings Road School?
What I love most about Kings Road School is the strong sense of community and dedication to student growth. All of the faculty and staff here work together closely, creating a supportive and positive learning environment for students. From working with students, to speaking with parents and staff, everyone is so friendly and makes anyone feel at home. I love working with all of the students here at Kings Road School!
What is your favorite book?
Although it’s more of a children's book, I love the story Because of Winn-Dixie. Being the animal lover that I am, I have read that story over the years with multiple classes and grade levels and it always has been a favorite of mine!
What do you like to do when you are not at Kings Road School?
When I’m not at Kings Road School, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love going on hikes with my dogs and going to the beach in the warmer weather! I also just recently moved to New Providence so it’s fun to explore new places there as well!
Thank you KRS Father Major Leasure for Presenting to Students on Veterans Day!
News from School Counselor Mr. Levine
- Kindergarten students Madison Bostel and Gino Aquino practice the proper military salute technique during our Veterans Day assembly.
- On Wednesday, November 6th, the 5th Grade Student Council came to school bright and early to clear the grounds of debris and garbage. The picture below shows some of the members cleaning near King Road.
- Our annual Thanksgiving food drive is up and running. It's not too late to donate instant oatmeal(K), mac and cheese (1st grade), stuffing (2nd grade), instant mashed potatoes (3rd grade), instant gravy packets (4th grade), and canned vegetables (5th grade). Pictured below are 2nd graders Brian Bohn and Owen Sands with their donations. Thank you everyone for your generosity!
- Thanks to a generous grant from the PTO; Mr. Levine and Mrs. Gabriel can host a monthly Student of the Month" luncheon. The picture below are the students selected for "October Student of the Month". Congratulations!
KRS Chess Club
The Chess Club welcomes all students who want to play chess in a fun, informal and supportive environment. Students who want to learn the game of chess are encouraged to visit some of the neighborhood libraries who offer free, or almost free chess lessons for beginners.
The chess club will meet approximately 15 times this year. There is no commitment. Students are welcome to come as frequently or infrequently as possible.
Interested students (parents) should get on Mr. Levine's chess club email list to find out about upcoming meetings, by filling out the form below
