Welcome:
CEO Note
Congratulations to everyone who participated in our Summer Learning Initiative this
year! Hundreds of you signed up, and we’re so glad we were able to meet your reading
and learning needs this summer. If you’ve won a prize, we’ll contact you in the next
couple of weeks.
Tickets for our upcoming Berthoud Literary Festival go on sale mid-month. To make
sure that the Festival is accessible to all kinds of people, some of the events are free,
some require registration, and some require tickets. Watch our social media,
newsletters, and posters in the Library so you know when to purchase those tickets.
Happy end of summer to all of you,
Amie P.
Library CEO

We are now open for browsing Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 10AM - 6PM. Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10AM - 8PM, and Saturday we are open from 10AM - 4PM. We are no longer closed for lunch on Saturdays (yippee!).

Berthoud Literary Festival: Volunteer Call
Have you heard we’re doing a Literary Festival this September? Want to be on the
inside track? Volunteer!
Made in Colorado: a Berthoud Literary Festival is happening the third weekend of
September, the 20th through 22nd .
We’re looking for people to help facilitate author visits, lead book discussions, assist at
keynote events, and more. If you’re interested, click the link below to see brief
descriptions of the different volunteer positions we’re looking to fill. Then, sign up for
whichever ones suit you best!
More information about our Literary Festival, including ticket and registration
information, will be available in August. Please stay tuned.
Digital Navigators: Senior Planet Classes Poll
One of our Digital Navigators is ready to teach Senior Planet classes! We'll start hosting them here at Berthoud Community Library, but first we want to know which of these appeal to you most:
- Intro to Managing Your Privacy
- Smartphones at a Glance
- Android Essentials
- Computer Essentials
We'll start with the topic that gets the most votes online and at the library.
Which of the Senior Planet Classes Appeal to You Most?
Family Events:
Bouncing Baby Storytime
Join us for Bouncing Baby Storytime on Tuesdays at 10:30AM. This story time is tailored to babies under two. Short books, bounces, songs, finger and foot play rhymes will be fun for babies and their grown-ups alike!
Terrific Toddler Storytime
Join us on Tuesdays at 10:30AM for Terrific Toddler Storytime. Let your toddler move and wiggle at this fast-paced story time with books to grow on, as well as plenty of singing and dancing!
Perky Pre-K Storytime
Join us on Fridays at 10:30AM for Perky Pre-K Storytime. We will be reading and interacting with longer stories in this group, but don’t worry we will still have songs and movement. We will wrap up with a craft.
Musical Moments
Every other Monday!
Let's play at the library! Musical Moments is especially designed for preschool children. Stop by every other Monday at 4PM to learn, play, and sing at the Berthoud Community Library.
August's Musical Moments dates are the 12th & 26th.
Kids' Stuff Exchange
Kids' Stuff Exchange on August 10th from 10AM-4PM!
Bonus: We will be offering weeded kids materials from the Library too!
Adult Events:
Writer's Group
Join us as we free-write, critique, and hone our craft together.
All genres of writing welcome. We meet Mondays from 10:30AM to 11:45AM.
There will be no Writer's Group on August 26th.
Saturday Sketch Hour
Join us for Saturday Sketch Hour each Saturday from 11AM-12PM! This is an hour for artists of any age and skill level to come and practice, and to learn from each other. Paper and pencils will be provided, however, if you have your own sketching supplies feel free to bring them. (Activity is drawing-specific!)
How Free Should Speech Be? A Reading Group with POPCO of CU Boulder
We're often told that censoring opinions is a bad thing. It is easy to imagine, however, certain opinions that we wouldn't mind being censored. Consider, for example, Holocaust denial. Do we even have reason to permit people to publicly engage in Holocaust denialism?
Nishi Shah seems to think so. In his essay "Why Academic Freedom Matters" he argues that censoring Holocaust denialism undercuts our justification for censoring the opinion in the first. If we censored it, we would deprive ourselves of opportunities in the future to have our reasons for censoring Holocaust denialism challenged.
Join us on August 8 as we take up the important questions of what free speech is, what grounds the most plausible defense of free speech, and why free speech is important!

This class will be a Power Vinyasa. All levels are welcome. Bring your own mat and props.
Registration is required. Call (970)532-2757 to register.
Knit & Crochet Drop-In
Knit & Crochet Drop-in will meet this Friday the 23rd of August from 1-3PM.
This is not a class, just a place for fellow crafters to meet and knit/crochet together. This is a drop-in event.
