BHS Newsletter
November 2024
Hello BHS Families!
As we head into November, we’re reminded of all we have to be grateful for, especially the partnership we share with each of you in supporting our students' growth and success. We’re excited to share updates, upcoming events, and a glimpse of what’s ahead!
We’re already halfway through the semester. It’s a great time for students to reflect on their progress, set new goals, and make the most of the support available as we head into the second half of the semester.
Thank you for being an essential part of our BHS community,
Amy Levonian
BHS Principal
BHS Updates and Reminders
No School November 27th - 29th
Reminder: November Late Starts
As a reminder, every other Wednesday, all BASD schools will have a late start. We will have 2 late starts in the month of November: November 6th and November 20th. You can find the BHS Bell Schedule here. For the complete listing of all late start days, please see the BASD Family Calendar 2024-2025.
Flex Update
This year, we’re excited to have introduced a Flex period into our schedule, designed to support student academic growth, enrichment, and personalized learning. During Flex, students have the opportunity to access targeted help, engage in enrichment activities, or work on assignments, helping them stay on top of their studies and manage their time effectively. Both students and teachers are using the Occumize platform to organize meetings and make the most of this dedicated time.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with students sharing that Flex gives them valuable time to receive support and deepen their learning. We’re thrilled to see the impact Flex is already having and look forward to continued success.
BHS Profile 2024-2025

October Highlights
October Safety Month Summary
Safety within our schools is a priority for the Burlington Area School District. As part of our safety plan, October was school safety month, where we practiced one of these drills per week: tornado, fire, run/evacuate, hide, fight. In doing so, we ensured our staff are discussing and practicing safety protocols with all of our students. We are extremely proud of how our staff and students handled the drills all month!
Parent Teacher Conferences Survey
We hope you found our fall Parent Teacher Conferences last month to be helpful in supporting your student’s success. To continue improving our efforts, we would love to hear your feedback! Please take a few minutes to complete a brief survey and share your thoughts on how conferences went.
Your input is valuable and will help us better meet your needs in the future.

Anti-Bullying Assembly
A huge thank you to After the Dash for making last month's Anti-Bullying assembly possible! Our BHS freshmen, DRIVEN, and NHS students played an incredible role in leading this important conversation. The assembly focused on the impact of our words and the language we use—reminding us all how powerful and lasting our words can be. Let’s continue working together to create a positive and supportive environment for everyone.
Gateway Nursing Assistant Course - Futures in Healthcare
Congratulations to the incredible cohort of 10 students who have successfully completed the Gateway Nursing Assistant course in BHS’s very own nursing skills lab! Your hard work and dedication have brought you this far, and we couldn’t be more proud. As you prepare to sit for your Certified Nursing Assistant exams (also here at BHS), we wish you the best of luck! Soon, you’ll be out serving our community and making a positive impact in the healthcare field.
These students are paving the way for future cohorts to follow in your footsteps. We are excited for another section of 10 students next semester!
FFA and Food for America
In October, the FFA finished their first major project of the year, Food For America! This nationwide event is all about teaching our elementary students where their food comes from.
Thanks to the incredible support from our district and the Schaal Family Dairy Farm, we welcomed nearly all of BASD's 4th graders for an unforgettable day on the farm! With 8 interactive stations, our high school members—nearly 40 strong—worked hard to guide the students as they learned about milk production and the animals that call the farm home.

Demon Closet Restock
BHS's Demon Closet is where students can access school supplies, clothes, hygiene products, snacks, and other food items. It is completely funded by generous donations from community members, businesses, and BASD families and friends. We are currently in need of donations to help support this cause. If you are able to lend a hand, please consider checking out our Amazon wish list. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, makes a huge difference in the lives of our students.
Donations purchased off of the Amazon wish list can be sent directly to BHS for your convenience. Together, we can ensure that the Demon Closet remains a valuable resource for our students. Thank you for your unwavering support!
